VP Sports & Entertainment presents: Silvertips Co-Captain Hammell inks entry-level deal with Seattle Kraken
All aboard, Captain!
Everett Silvertips ‘C’ Kaden Hammell has put pen to paper on a three-year, entry-level deal with the Seattle Kraken.
“Kaden took another positive step in his development this year,” Kraken General Manager Jason Botterill said. “He was a leader on the Silvertips and elevated his game in the playoffs. We’re excited to have him under contract for the next three years.”
The 20-year-old blueliner is coming off a rock-solid season that saw him pot 10 goals and 28 assists for 38 points and a +45 rating through 59 regular-season games to help the Silvertips clinch the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy as WHL Regular Season Champions.
Hammell tied for first among all defencemen in game-winning goals (4) and ranked second in plus/minus.
The 6-foot-1, 188-pound rearguard stepped it up again in the playoffs with 13 points (4G-9A) in 13 games as Everett reached the second round.
Seattle selected Hammell with the 148th overall pick in the fifth round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
The Langley, B.C. product has played parts of five seasons with the Silvertips and Kamloops Blazers, who originally selected him in the first round of the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft.
He was a key part of the massive 2023 trade that saw the Blazers acquire Olen Zellweger and Ryan Hofer ahead of hosting the 2023 Memorial Cup.
Hammell has racked up 26 goals and 77 assists for 103 points in 242 regular-season contests, in addition to 18 points (7G-11A) in 44 postseason appearances.
He was named an alternate captain for the Silvertips in 2023-24 before being promoted to Co-Captain for 2024-25.
Hammell is the second WHLer to sign with the Kraken this week after WHL Defenceman of the Year Tyson Jugnauth (Portland Winterhawks) locked in on May 28, 2025.
