VP Sports & Entertainment presents: Chiefs captain Harrington signs with Calgary Flames
Spokane, Wash. — Fresh off recording a Gordie Howe hat trick in his WHL season debut, Spokane Chiefs captain Chase Harrington has put pen to paper on a three-year, entry-level contract with the Calgary Flames.
The 18-year-old was selected with the 36th overall pick in the second round of the 2026 NHL Draft in Buffalo, N.Y., and suited up for a preseason tilt against the Seattle Kraken on September 24.

Harrington has brought the sandpaper and skill to the Chiefs’ lineup over parts of five seasons in Spokane.
The 6-foot, 201-pound winger posted 28 goals (including four game-winners) and 29 assists for 57 points in 61 games in 2025-26, tying for first on the team in goals while sitting first in penalty minutes (105) and fourth in points.
He represented Team West at the 2026 WHL Prospects Game and was one of nine WHLers selected to participate in the 2025 CHL USA Prospects Challenge — where he climbed Calgary’s famous Scotiabank Saddledome catwalk for the first time.
Harrington, from Prince George, B.C., was originally selected with the eighth overall pick in the first round of the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft.
He’s amassed 54 goals and 79 assists for 133 points in 195 career regular-season contests and played a vital role in Spokane’s run to the 2025 WHL Championship Series.
Harrington logged 14 points (6G-8A) in 20 playoff contests, highlighted by the overtime goal against Portland in Game 2 of the Western Conference Championship.
While the Chiefs would bow out in Round One of the 2026 postseason, Harrington was a bright spot for the team, scoring the late equalizer and overtime winner in Game 5 against the Prince George Cougars (and fellow Flames prospect Carson Carels) to force a sixth game.
Harrington was named the 39th captain in franchise history ahead of the 2026-27 home opener.
In Spokane’s Saturday tilt against the Tri-City Americans, Harrington scored the opening goal, assisted a strike from Washington Capitals prospect Tyus Sparks, and dropped the mitts against Tri-City defender Dylan LeBret in a 3-2 victory.
Harrington is the third player with WHL experience from the 2026 NHL Draft Class to sign his ELC, following first-overall pick Gavin McKenna (Toronto Maple Leafs / Medicine Hat Tigers) and goaltender Filip Ruzicka (Minnesota Wild / Brandon Wheat Kings).
The Chiefs, who are 2-0-0-0 to start the campaign, will now challenge Portland for possession of the WHL In-Season Cup.
