Spokane Chiefs clinch spot in 2019 WHL Playoffs
Buckle up eastern Washington, the Spokane Chiefs are headed to the Western Hockey League Playoffs for a second-straight year!
The Chiefs confirmed their spot in the 2019 WHL Playoffs via a 7-1 win against the Prince George Cougars Wednesday, sweeping the season series for a second-straight year and extending their winning streak at the CN Centre to four games.
Co-captain Jaret Anderson-Dolan was a force in Wednesday’s playoff-clinching game, potting a pair of goals and three assists for the second five-point game of his WHL career. It also marked the 17th multi-goal game of his WHL career. Co-captain Ty Smith (New Jersey Devils) added three assists in the victory, giving him 62 points (6G-56A) on the season.
Leading the Chiefs in scoring is overage forward Riley Woods, who has 64 points (28G-36A) in 57 games this season. The Chiefs have also been sparked by the strong play of rookie Adam Beckman, who sits second in WHL rookie scoring with 50 points (26G-24A) in 59 games. Beckman was ranked 44th among North Americans skaters by NHL Central Scouting in their midterm rankings late last month ahead of the 2019 NHL Draft.
They’re the sixth team to clinch a spot in the 2019 WHL Playoffs following in the footsteps of the Prince Albert Raiders, Everett Silvertips, Vancouver Giants, Portland Winterhawks, and Saskatoon Blades.
Up next for the Chiefs is a date Friday, March 1 (7:00 p.m. PT) against the Portland Winterhawks at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
