Reinhart adds three assists, nine WHL alumni advance to Championship Game at 4 Nations Face-Off
Boston, Mass.- Sam Reinhart‘s three-assist night helped propel Canada to a 5-3 win over Finland in a must-win match at the 4 Nations Face-Off on Monday, February 17.
The regulation victory sets up a rematch between Canada and the United States in the Championship Game on Thursday, February 20 at 6:00 p.m. MST.
Reinhart (West Vancouver, B.C. / Kootenay ICE), who won WHL Rookie of the Year (2011-12), Most Sportsmanlike Player (2013-14) and Player of the Year (2013-14) over his WHL career, helped Canada jump out to an early 2-0 lead by dishing up an assist for former QMJHL star Nathan MacKinnon less than a minute after OHL exceptional-status forward Connor McDavid opened the scoring with an unassisted charge.
Brandon Hagel (Morinville, Alta. / Red Deer Rebels) picked up a secondary assist on MacKinnon’s first goal.
Two-time Stanley Cup Champion Brayden Point (Calgary, Alta. / Moose Jaw Warriors) continued the first-period pile-on by chopping a Travis Sanheim (Elkhorn, Man. / Calgary Hitmen) rebound past Finland’s Kevin Lankinen for a 3-0 lead.

In the middle frame, Reinhart- a 2024 Stanley Cup Champion- came up big with another feed off the boards to QMJHL legend and Canadian Captain Sidney Crosby to set up MacKinnon for his second of the night and the eventual game-winning goal.
Finland piled up three late goals to create tension and momentum in the dying minutes of the game, but Reinhart came through with another key pass to Crosby for a dagger of an empty-net goal.
Canada, Finland and Sweden all entered the day with two points, with Canada’s three-point regulation victory pushing them through.
The Canucks finish round-robin action with a 1-1-0-1 record, beating Finland, edging Sweden in overtime and falling to the Americans.
Canada now moves on to a rematch against the United States in Thursday’s final.
The Americans clipped Canada with a 3-1 decision on Saturday, February 15.
Six former WHL players have found the scoresheet at the tournament, with Reinhart’s trio of assists leading the pack and Point’s goal and assist right behind.
