Hurricanes blueliner McCutcheon commits to Quinnipiac University
The hockey winds are blowing a graduating Hurricane east.
Lethbridge Hurricanes alternate captain Logan McCutcheon has announced his commitment to Quinnipiac University for the 2025-26 season.
“It’s a great hockey school, they love their hockey at [Quinnipiac] and it’s a good program that won it a couple of years ago, so I think it’s really exciting and I just want to go there, step up and establish myself, it’s something that I’m really excited for,” McCutcheon said. “It’s going to be different; there is a lot of excitement and definitely some nerves, so it’ll be a change, but I think I’ll adjust well and have a good time.”
The 5-foot-9, 162-pound rearguard suited up for parts of six seasons in Lethbridge, culminating in a career-best 38-point (9G-29A) season and +19 rating in 2024-25.
Originally selected by the Hurricanes in the third round of the 2019 WHL Prospect Draft, McCutcheon suited up for 299 regular-season games in the Bridge City, piling up 23 goals and 124 assists for 147 points.
The Saskatoon, Sask. product finished sixth on the Hurricanes in assists in 2024-25 and played a key role in helping the souped-up Canes record their first home playoff victory in five seasons.
McCutcheon picked up seven points (1G-6A) in 16 postseason matches, including a nail-biting seven-game victory against the rival Calgary Hitmen, to reach the 2025 Eastern Conference Championship, where Lethbridge ultimately fell to the eventual WHL Champion Medicine Hat Tigers.
He ends his major junior career sitting fifth in all-time games played by a Hurricanes (299), including a 295-game iron man streak, while ranking second in games played by a Canes defenceman.
McCutcheon is also fifth in all-time scoring by a Lethbridge rearguard.
“Being a Hurricane meant everything to me,” McCutcheon said. “Ever since the draft, I was welcomed by everyone here, and to be able to be a Hurricane for my entire career, I couldn’t have asked for it any other way. It’s been unbelievable.”
He was named the Hurricanes’ Hardest Working Player for 2024-25, won the Joan Kobal Memorial Award for Perseverance, Dedication and Sportsmanship in 2023-24, Lethbridge Hurricanes Rookie of the Year in 2021-22, and picked up back-to-back Hurricanes Scholastic Award in 2021 and 2022.
“A huge thank you to all of my teammates, staff, office staff, coaches and everyone in the organization,” McCutcheon added. “Especially a thank you to the fans – nothing would be possible without them and all the players appreciate everything that they do.”
