Former Hurricanes netminder Thomson commits to Saskatchewan Huskies
Saskatoon, Sask. – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies have added WHL alumnus Bryan Thomson between the pipes.
The Huskies announced the commitment of the former Lethbridge Hurricanes netminder Thursday, June 5.
“Bryan will be a great addition to our group this season,” said Brandin Cote, Head Coach of the Huskies men’s hockey team and also a member of the WHL alumni. “Another player who had a solid junior career and earned an opportunity to play professionally, he has provide to be a consistent goaltender who takes advantage of his size and mobility.”
Thomson, 23, played five WHL seasons as a member of the Lethbridge Hurricanes. In 117 career regular season games, the 6-foot-5 puckstopper secured a record of 59-42-4-2 with a 3.06 goals-against average (GAA), .901 save percentage (SV%), and five shutouts.
Following the 2022-23 campaign, the native of Moose Jaw, Sask., graduated from the WHL and embarked on a pro career with the Idaho Steelheads. In two seasons, Thomson appeared in 60 ECHL regular season contests, going 31-18-5 with a 3.07 GAA, .906 SV%, and one shutout.
“It is super exciting [joining the Huskies], seeing everything the team accomplished last season, it’s a great organization to be joining,” Thomson said. “Knowing I’m getting a good education from such a high-calibre university and getting to play close to home certainly made my decision easier as well.
“I want to come in and make an impact, be a guy that can be relied on throughout the season and be a part of this group.”
The Huskies won the 2025 Canada West men’s hockey championship, defeating the Mount Royal University Cougars in a best-of-three series.
Thomson was originally selected by the Hurricanes in the second round (37th overall) of the 2017 WHL Draft. He is the latest WHL recruit for Cote and the Saskatchewan Huskies, joining 22-year-old forward Conner Roulette.
