CHL Top-10 Rankings presented by Delta Hotels by Marriott: Week 23
Today, the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) announced the Week 23 edition of its CHL Top-10 Rankings for the 2024-25 season.
Riding a 13-game winning streak, the longest active streak in the CHL, the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) are back at No. 1 for a third straight week. Having already secured the Jean-Rougeau Trophy as the 2024-25 QMJHL Regular Season Champions, the Wildcats hold the fewest regulation losses (nine) of any CHL club and the CHL’s best goal differential at +144. Sitting in second for the third consecutive week is the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Over the last week, the Knights claimed the Hamilton Spectator Trophy as the OHL’s Regular Season Champions for the second consecutive season and the eighth time in franchise history. Finally, rounding out the top three, is the Rimouski Océanic of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). The 2025 Memorial Cup hosts have locked second place in the QMJHL thanks to their 44-14-2-2 record.
Among the most notable changes to this week’s rankings were the rise of two Western Hockey League (WHL) clubs, the Medicine Hat Tigers and the Everett Silvertips, along with the return of the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL to the Top 10. With 24 victories in 28 games (24-2-1-1) dating back to January 4, including eight straight wins, the Tigers are in fourth – their highest ranking in the CHL Top-10 Rankings since October 1. Up a place into fifth are the Silvertips, who secured their second Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy as the WHL’s Regular Season Champions in franchise history and their first since the 2006-07 season. Meanwhile, with three wins over their last four outings including a victory over the No.2-ranked Knights on Sunday, the Spitfires are back in the Top 10 for the first time in three weeks.
With the regular season set to wrap up in all three member leagues of the CHL this weekend, next week’s rankings will be the 24th and final ones of the 2024-25 campaign.
CHL Top-10 Rankings – Week 23
1. Moncton Wildcats (QMJHL): Holding the longest active winning streak in the CHL with 13 consecutive victories, the Moncton Wildcats (51-9-2-0) sit atop the rankings for a third straight week. Over the last seven days, having scored wins against the Eagles (3-0), Sea Dogs (8-0), and Titan (6-2), the Wildcats became the second team in the CHL to break the 50-win plateau – achieving the feat for the third time in franchise history. If they were to win their final two games, Moncton would set a new franchise record with 53 victories in one single season. Additionally, with a CHL-best 2.19 goals-against average this season, the Wildcats currently hold the fourth-lowest average of any club in QMJHL history. During their three victories, 19-year-old forward Alex Mercier (28G-34A in 62 GP) led the QMJHL in scoring with eight points (6G-2A) last week. Named the Videotron Player of the Week in the QMJHL, the Ste-Foy, Que., native has a goal in three straight games, which included registering his second hat-trick of the 2024-25 campaign. Meanwhile, now a perfect 15-0-0-0 in his QMJHL career, Detroit Red Wings prospect Rudy Guimond (15-0-0-0 record, 1.52 GAA, .948 SV% & 3 SO in 15 GP) continues to play at a high level. Guimond registered his third shutout of the 2024-25 season after stopping all 26 shots he faced against Cape Breton. Guimond’s 1.52 goals-against average and .948 save percentage are the best of any goalie in the CHL with a minimum in three games played in 2024-25. This week, already set to face the Québec Remparts in the first round of the QMJHL Playoffs, Moncton will close out the 2024-25 campaign with contests against the Mooseheads and Titan over the weekend.
Games this week: vs, Halifax (Mar. 21), @ Acadie-Bathurst (Mar. 22)
2. London Knights (OHL): With a CHL-leading 53 victories this season, the London Knights (53-10-2-0) are back in second for a third consecutive week. Over the last seven days, the Knights scored wins against Guelph (7-3 & 6-3) and Saginaw (5-1), while suffering one lone defeat at the hands of the No.10-ranked Spitfires (8-5). Thanks to their strong week, the Knights claimed the Hamilton Spectator Trophy as the OHL’s Regular Season Champions for a second straight season. The latter is a feat that they’ve now achieved eight times since 2003-04. London has also put together a second straight 50-plus win season, giving them 100-plus points in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2012-14. Their 53 wins in 2024-25 are already the most the franchise has earned in a single season in 20 years (ie. since the 2004-05 London Knights / CHL Team of the Century won 59 times). Additionally, by winning their sixth straight OHL Midwest Division title in 2024-25, the Knights became the first team in OHL history to win their respective division over six consecutive seasons. Helping them achieve these feats over the last seven days was none other than Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan (29G-39A in 45 GP) and San Jose Sharks prospect Sam Dickinson (27G-61A in 54 GP). Cowan led the team in scoring with nine points (2G-7A) in three games as he extended his point streak to nine games (9G-14 over that stretch). With eight points (2G-6A) in four games, Dickinson made some London Knights history by reaching 88 points on the year and becoming the franchise record holder for points by a defenceman in a single season (the previous record was 87 points, set by Evan Bouchard & Rick Corriveau). This week, Cowan, Dickinson, and the Knights will look to close out their 2024-25 campaign with victories against the No. 6-ranked Rangers, No.10-ranked Spitfires and the Otters to close out the season.
Games this week: @ Kitchener (Mar. 18), vs. Windsor (Mar. 21), @ Erie (Mar. 23)
3. Rimouski Océanic (QMJHL): Having earned two victories in three contests over the last seven days, the Rimouski Océanic (44-14-2-2) are back at No. 3 for the seventh consecutive week. With two games left on the schedule, the 2025 Memorial Cup hosts could get to 46 victories before the year wraps up, which would be the most they’ve earned in a single season in 10 years (2014-15 – 47 wins). The Océanic have locked up second place in the QMJHL’s overall standings and their 25-3-2-1 record at home is arguably the best of any club in the CHL. Holding a two-point average over his last three games (2G-4A), 21-year-old forward Jonathan Fauchon (45G-55A in 62 GP) became the first player in the QMJHL to reach 100 points this season. Fauchon is actually the first player on the Océanic to break the 100-point plateau since New York Rangers forward Alexis Lafrenière achieved the feat with the club during the 2019-20 season. Meanwhile, Vegas Golden Knights prospect Mathieu Cataford (19G-43A in 53 GP) continued his strong start to the month of March, registering a point in four straight games, including four points (1G-3A) over the club’s three contests last week. Following a number of absences from their lineup over the last week, including Jacob Mathieu (39G-26A in 57 GP), Eriks Mateiko (24G-14A in 45 GP), Anthony Paré (4G-15A in 55 GP), and Maël St-Denis (22G-19A in 53 GP), Rimouski will hope to get some of these key players back when they close out the season with a pair of games against the Québec Remparts this weekend.
Games this week: vs. Québec (Mar. 21), @ Québec (Mar. 22)
4. Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL): Following another strong week which saw the team extend its winning streak to eight games, the Medicine Hat Tigers (45-17-3-1) have risen up the rankings for the third time in five weeks. Now up to fourth, the Tigers are holding their highest ranking in the CHL Top 10 since the Week 1 edition of the rankings were released on October 1. The latter shouldn’t come as a surprise given the play of the Tigers since January 4. Over their last 28 games (24-2-1-1), Medicine Hat has accrued 24 victories and placed themselves in first place in the WHL’s Western Conference. Now up to 45 victories on the season, the Tigers have posted their best regular season since winning 51 games eight years ago during the 2016-17 campaign. Part of their success is no doubt attributed to the continued performances from top 2026 NHL Draft prospect Gavin McKenna (37G-84A in 54 GP). The 17-year-old from Whitehorse, Yukon, registered a CHL-best 11 points last week, which included establishing a new single-game career-high of seven points (3G-4A) against the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday. Named the Tempo WHL Player of the Week on Monday, McKenna now has a point in 38 straight games, which stands as the second-longest streak in the CHL since 2000 (and one game longer than Sidney Crosby’s 37=game point streak in 2004-05. Following his strong week, the 17-year-old forward stands just five points shy of CHL scoring leaders Michael Misa (126 points) and Andrew Cristall (126 points). Meanwhile, after scoring a hat-trick of his own against the Red Deer Rebels, Tigers captain Oasiz Wiesblatt (36G-64A in 64 GP) reached 100 points on the season – marking the first time the Tigers have had two 100-point players in the same year since the 1990-91 campaign. This week, the Tigers will look to wrap up the 2024-25 season on a 10-game winning streak as they get set to face the Hurricanes and No.9-ranked Hitmen over the weekend. Fans can catch the Top-10 showdown between the Tigers and Hitmen live at 5:00 p.m. MT for free this Sunday on the WHL’s YouTube channel and WHL Live on CHL TV as part of the WHL’s Wednesday Night in The Dub program.
Games this week: vs. Lethbridge (Mar. 22), @ Calgary (Mar. 23)
5. Everett Silvertips (WHL): Coming off a huge week with three victories, including a pair of wins against their U.S. Division rivals and the No. 7-ranked Chiefs (3-2 & 2-1), the Everett Silvertips (46-12-4-4) have climbed up a place to fifth in this week’s rankings. Following their victory on Sunday, their second over Spokane in four days, the Silvertips won the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy, which is presented annually to the WHL’s regular season champion. It marks just the second time in franchise history that Everett has achieved the feat and for the first time since the 2006-07 campaign. Their performance over the last week was even more impressive when you consider the adversity the group faced having lost 2025 NHL Draft prospect Carter Bear (40G-42A in 56 GP) to injury indefinitely. A big part of the reason they were able to confront that challenge likely had to do with Nashville Predators prospect Austin Roest (3G-2A in 5 GP), who has five points in five games since returning to the Silvertips’ lineup at the beginning of the month. Meanwhile, rookie goaltender Raiden LeGall (15-2-1-3 record, 2.18 GAA, .919 SV% & 1 SO in 22 GP) continued to have an impact in the crease, earning victories over Spokane (stopping 33-of-35 shots) and Portland (stopping 24-of-27 shots) last week. Among qualified goalies in the WHL (min. 1260 minutes played), LeGall leads the WHL with both a 2.18 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage. This weekend, the Silvertips will wrap up their 2024-25 campaign with a pair of contests against the Wenatchee Wild.
Games this week: vs. Wenatchee (Mar. 21), @ Wenatchee (Mar. 22)
6. Kitchener Rangers (OHL): Following a pair of victories against the North Bay Battalion (6-0) and the Owen Sound Attack (3-2) over the weekend, the Kitchener Rangers (46-13-4-2) are up one spot to No. 6 in this week’s rankings. Kitchener has now registered a point in nine straight games (8-0-0-1) and it has been a little over a month since they have suffered a regulation loss. With three games left on their schedule, the Rangers are now just two points shy of reaching 100 points for the fourth time in the franchise’s 61-year history. Their 98 points in 2024-25 are already the most Kitchener has amassed in 17 years, which coincides with the last time the club made an appearance at the Memorial Cup (2007-08). During their two victories over the last week, 2025 NHL Draft prospect Tanner Lam (13G-40A in 64 GP) and Adrian Misaljevic (31G-38A in 65 GP) both recorded a team-high five points. Specifically, Lam had a memorable night against the Battalion last Friday night, tallying his first career OHL hat-trick and earning the game’s first star. Meanwhile, Misaljevic extended his point streak to four games, having tallied two points or more in each of those contests (totaling 4G-6A over his last 4 GP). The 20-year-old forward also has registered a goal in three of his last four outings. Already set to finish with a point-per-game average in 2024-25, Misaljevic has registered single-season career-highs in goals (31), assists (38), and points (69). This week, as they chase their fourth 100-point campaign in franchise history, the Rangers will hope to secure two points and more when they welcome the No. 2-ranked Knights and Attack to the Aud before they close out their season in Guelph on Sunday.
Games this week: vs. London (Mar. 18), vs. Owen Sound (Mar. 21), @ Guelph (Mar. 23)
7. Spokane Chiefs (WHL): Having lost two of three over the last seven days, including a pair of defeats at the hands of the No.5-ranked Silvertips, the Spokane Chiefs (44-20-4-2) fell back three spots to find themselves in seventh this week. Before their two regulation losses against the Silvertips over the last seven days, the Chiefs had only suffered two of them in 17 games since January. Now, coming into Tuesday, Spokane holds a 14-4-1-1 record in 20 contests dating back to January 31, which remains one of the better records of any club in the CHL over that stretch. During the Chiefs’ three outings over the last seven days, Washington Capitals prospect Andrew Cristall (47G-79A in 55 GP) registered a point in all three games. Holding 126 points on the season, Cristall now shares the CHL scoring lead with Saginaw Spirit forward and 2025 NHL Draft prospect Michael Misa. With just two games left on their schedule, if Cristall were to place first in the CHL scoring race and win the CHL’s Top Scorer Award, he would become the first Spokane Chiefs player to ever achieve that feat. Meanwhile, Cristall’s linemate Berkly Catton (38G-70A in 55 GP) also registered a point in all three Chiefs’ contests last week, as the Seattle Kraken prospect seems poised to finish among the top-three scorers in the WHL in 2024-25. This week, Spokane will wrap up its 2024-25 campaign with games against the Thunderbirds and Americans this weekend.
Games this week: vs. Seattle (Mar. 21), @ Tri-City (Mar. 22)
8. Brantford Bulldogs (OHL): Now holding 24 victories over their last 28 contests (24-3-1-0) since January 5, including road wins against North Bay (2-1) and Sudbury (5-1), the Brantford Bulldogs (42-18-5-0) are up one place to eighth. The latter matches their season-best ranking of the 2024-25 season, which is a mark they haven’t reached since the Week 1 Rankings were released on October 1. Thanks to their continued strong performances, the Bulldogs are in the driver’s seat in the OHL’s Eastern Conference. As they continue to hold a slim three-point over the likes of the Barrie Colts and the Kingston Frontenacs, Brantford can clinch the top spot in the Eastern Conference by winning two of their three remaining games on the schedule (which include an all-important contest in Kingston on Friday night). During their two road victories last week, Chicago Blackhawks prospect Marek Vanacker (23G-18A in 42 GP) extended his goal and point streaks to four games (5G-5A over that stretch). Fellow Chicago Blackhawks prospect Nick Lardis (71G-44A in 63 GP) reached 71 goals on the season, as he leads the CHL in goal scoring (holding a 12-goal lead over Saginaw Spirit forward Michael Misa). 2025 NHL Draft prospect and reigning OHL Rookie of the Year Jake O’Brien (32G-64A in 64 GP) registered three points last week – putting him just four shy of becoming the third Brantford Bulldogs skater to reach 100 points in 2024-25. This week, the Bulldogs will look to secure the top spot in the OHL’s Eastern Conference when they face the Steelheads, Frontenacs, and 67’s in their final three games of the season.
Games this week: vs. Brampton (Mar. 19), @ Kingston (Mar. 21), vs. Ottawa (Mar. 23)
9. Calgary Hitmen (WHL): Holding a 2-1-0-0 record over the last week, thanks in part to victories over Edmonton (3-2) and Lethbridge (3-1), the Calgary Hitmen (43-16-3-3) are down one place and sitting ninth in this week’s rankings. The lone loss over the last seven days came on Sunday against the Oil Kings as the Hitmen gave up eight goals on 29 shots (scoring four goals on 46 shots of their own). Despite suffering that defeat, the Hitmen still have one of the best records since January 19 – having won 19 of 24 contests (19-4-0-1) over that stretch. As a result, Calgary remains within striking distance of the No.4-ranked Medicine Hat Tigers for first place in the WHL’s Eastern Conference. Specifically, Calgary trails by only two points and has one game in hand on Medicine Hat. Given that the two clubs meet this Sunday in their final game of the season, there remains the opportunity for either club to grab that No.1 seed in the Eastern Conference. During their three games last week, the Hitmen showcased their depth as they were led in scoring by 20-year-old forward Ethan Moore (21G-10A in 65 GP) and 2025 NHL Draft prospect Brandon Gorzynski (16G-24A in 65 GP), who both had four points in three games played last week. Specifically, Moore scored four goals over the last week, breaking the 20-goal plateau for the first time in his WHL career (he’s one of four Hitmen to score 20+ goals this season). Meanwhile, Gorzynski has points in four of his last five outings along with a goal in three of those contests. This week, Moore and Gorzynski will hope to chip in offensively once again during their three-game schedule against the Rebels and the No.4-ranked Tigers. Fans can catch the Top-10 showdown between Medicine Hat and Calgary live at 5:00 p.m. MT for free this Sunday on the WHL’s YouTube channel and WHL Live on CHL TV as part of the WHL’s Wednesday Night in The Dub program.
Games this week: vs. Red Deer (Mar. 17), @ Red Deer (Mar. 22), vs. Medicine Hat (Mar. 23)
10. Windsor Spitfires (OHL): Having strung together three wins last week, including a big 8-5 victory over the No.2-ranked Knights, the Windsor Spitfires (44-16-4-2) are back in the CHL’s Top 10 for the first time in three weeks. With 44 wins through 66 games in 2024-25, the Spitfires have achieved the feat for the third time in four seasons. As of Tuesday, Windsor holds 94 points and if they were to reach 96 – it would be the most they have accrued in a single season since the Spitfires registered 106 points during their OHL and Memorial Cup championship-winning campaign in 2009-10. Powering them to three victories in seven days was none other than Washington Capitals prospect Ilya Protas (50G-69A in 60 GP), who has been electric for the Spitfires. Having led all OHL and CHL skaters with 11 points (5G-6A) over the last week, Protas was named the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week. The 19-year-old from Belarus became just the third skater in both the OHL and CHL to reach 50 goals this season. With 119 points on the year, Protas only trails Saginaw Spirit forward Michael Misa (126 points) in OHL scoring in 2024-25. The Capitals prospect actually sits tied for second in OHL scoring alongside his teammate and Los Angeles Kings prospect Liam Greentree (49G-70A in 64 GP), who totaled six points in the Spits’ three victories last week. Greentree now has a point in seven straight games and he’s registered multi-point outings in nine of his last 11 contests. Sitting at 49 goals, the 19-year-old from Oshawa, Ont., appears poised to become the fourth in the CHL to hit the 50-goal plateau. This week, Greentree will look to hit that mark when his Spitfires close out their 2024-25 campaign against the Sting and No.2-ranked Knights.
Games this week: vs. Sarnia (Mar. 20), @ London (Mar. 21)
