Chiefs, Royals to go head-to-head in Round Two of the 2025 WHL Playoffs

Calgary, Alta. – Round Two of the 2025 WHL Playoffs presented by Nutrien has booked a seven-game series between the Spokane Chiefs and Victoria Royals.

The pair of Western Conference Clubs made quick work of their first-round opponents, each needing just five games to secure their spot in Round Two.

Victoria (40-17-4-7, 91 PTS) has been awaiting their new opponents since they knocked-off the Tri-City Americans with a commanding, 7-0, shutout triumph on Friday, April 4.

In a similar fashion, Spokane (45-20-1-2, 93 PTS) claimed their spot in the second round with a dominant performance on Saturday, April 5, routing the Vancouver Giants, 9-4, in Game 5.

Despite a mere two points separating the Clubs during the 2024-25 WHL Regular Season, it’s the Chiefs that hold the edge in head-to-head matchups.

The U.S.-based team boasts a regular season record of 3-0-1-0 over the Royals.

Seattle Kraken prospect and Chiefs captain Berkly Catton was all over the scoresheet in Round One, netting 14 points (4G-10A) in five appearances – and, not to mention, a jaw-dropping, seven-point performance (2G-5A) on April 5, 2025.

Spokane’s top line, consisting of Washington Capitals prospect Andrew Cristall, 20-year-old veteran Shea Van Olm, and Catton, has been nearly unstoppable through five games, notching a collective 37 points in the first round.

2025 NHL Draft Top Prospect Cole Reschny has been the offensive catalyst for the opposing Royals squad. With 12 points (4G-8A) in five skates, Victoria’s offensive production has  – and will continue to – run through the 18-year-old.

Between the pipes, Kamloops, B.C. local Johnny Hicks has picked up the starting netminder mantle for the Royals. Owning a post-season record of 4-0-0-0, Hicks is one of three netminders who remain undefeated at the 2025 WHL Playoffs. His .949 save percentage and 1.58 goals against average also ranks first and second, respectively, among all WHL goaltenders.

The Round Two matchup is slated to begin at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena on Sunday, April 13 at 6:05 p.m. PST.

The series will shift south to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Arena for Game 3 on Wednesday, April 16 at 7:05 p.m. PST.
