Chiefs forward Cristall becomes first WHL player of 21st century to score 400 points
If there were any questions about Andrew Cristall’s status as one of the Western Hockey League’s modern greats, they should all be dispelled by now.
The Spokane Chiefs star made modern history Friday night when he became the first WHL player of the 21st century to reach the 400-point plateau. With a primary assist on a power-play goal from Seattle Kraken prospect Berkly Catton, the 19-year-old Cristall vaulted his name into unique standing.
The assist was part of a five-point effort for the Washington Capitals prospect, as he helped fuel the high-powered Chiefs to a decisive 9-2 road win over the Victoria Royals. When the final buzzer sounded, Cristall’s career point total sat at 401.
The 5-foot-10, 183-pound product of Burnaby, B.C., has been difficult to deal with for all opponents this season. With 121 points (44G-77A) to his credit, the veteran forward has built an increasingly comfortable lead atop the WHL scoring charts, as he now enjoys an 11-point cushion on Medicine Hat Tigers star Gavin McKenna and his 110 points (33G-77A).
Cristall’s 401 points are well beyond that of any other WHL player to have taken to the ice thus far in the 21st century:
- Andrew Cristall* – 153-248–401 points (Kelowna Rockets / Spokane Chiefs / 2020-25)
- Jordan Weal – 135-250–385 points (Regina Pats / 2007-2012)
- Riley Heidt* – 113-246–359 points (Prince George Cougars / 2020-25)
- Nic Petan – 110-248–358 points (Portland Winterhawks / 2010-15)
- Brendan Ranford – 137-220–357 points (Kamloops Blazers / 2007-13)
- Justin Feser – 155-198–353 points (Tri-City Americans / 2008-13)
- Adam Hughesman – 140-210–350 points (Tri-City Americans / 2006-12)
- Colton Yellow Horn – 153-196–349 points (Lethbridge Hurricanes / Tri-City Americans / 2003-08)
- Ty Rattie – 151-197–348 points (Portland Winterhawks / 2008-13)
- Chris St. Jacques – 137-206–343 points (Medicine Hat Tigers / 2000-04)

If Cristall’s feat isn’t impressive enough, he accomplished it while playing fewer games than any of the other top 10 scorers of the century, with Friday’s contest representing the 242nd WHL regular season game of his career. The result is a career points-per-game rate of 1.66 for the energetic left winger. For comparison, the second-best production rate of the aforementioned group belongs to former Portland Winterhawks forward Nic Petan, who managed his 358 points in 252 games (1.42 points / game) from 2010 to 2015.
The 2024-25 season has been a magical one for Cristall, who has managed four-point performances on 14 separate occasions, including a career best seven-point effort (2G-5A) in a 12-2 win over the Wenatchee Wild back on January 11.
Prior to being traded from the Rockets to the Chiefs, Cristall strung together an impressive 15-game point streak, tallying 40 points (16G-24A) from October 19 through November 30, 2024.
Cristall, who was widely coveted at the 2025 WHL Trade Deadline, was moved from Kelowna to Spokane in a blockbuster deal that saw Hayden Paupanekis, two first-round picks, a second-round pick, a third-round pick, and a sixth-round pick acquired by the Rockets.
The Washington Capitals recognized the immense talent in Cristall, selecting him in the second round (40th overall) of the 2023 NHL Draft in Nashville.
Cristall was originally selected by the Kelowna Rockets in the first round (eighth overall) of the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft. Prior to being dealt to the Chiefs, Cristall appeared in 219 regular season games with the Rockets, registering 340 points (135G-205A). In 20 WHL Playoff games with Kelowna, he secured another 20 points (5G-15A).
The Spokane Chiefs have already clinched a berth in the 2025 WHL Playoffs, and undoubtedly, Cristall will look to lead his squad on a long run while building upon his already impressive playoff totals.
With a record of 42-18-1-1 (86 points), the Chiefs rank second in the WHL’s U.S. Division, trailing the WHL-leading Everett Silvertips (43-11-4-3, 93 points).
Cristall and the Chiefs will continue their push towards the post-season on Saturday night (6:05 p.m. PT) when they once again visit the Victoria Royals at Save-On-Foods Memorial Arena.
AC/BC is inevitable 🔥
