Chiefs forward Catton signs entry-level deal with Seattle Kraken
Seattle, Wash. – Spokane Chiefs forward Berkly Catton has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Seattle Kraken. The team announced the signing Friday morning.
The news came on the final day of the Kraken’s annual development camp, hosted from July 2-5 at the Kraken Community Iceplex in Seattle, Wash.
Catton was the Kraken’s eighth overall selection in the 2024 NHL Draft at Sphere in Las Vegas, Nev., and is the first WHL player from the 2024 NHL Draft class to sign an entry-level contract with their club.
“He brings elite hockey sense, an ability to score and a high compete level,” Seattle Kraken General Manager Ron Francis said in a statement. “He has had an impressive three seasons in the WHL, and we look forward to seeing him continue to develop.”
In 140 career appearances with the Chiefs, the 18-year-old talent has collected 175 points (78 goals–97 assists).
But, it was in the 2023-24 WHL Regular Season that Catton truly began to dominate his Western League opponents – recording career-highs in goals (54), assists (62), points (116), and plus/minus (+15). The Saskatoon, Sask. product also finished his draft-eligible season with a fourth-place finish among the WHL’s scoring leaders.
For his efforts, the Kraken prospect was named to the WHL’s U.S. Division First All-Star team and was a finalist for the WHL’s 2024 Player of the Year award.
One season prior, Catton was also named the Chiefs Rookie of the Year, along with the WHL’s U.S. Division Rookie of the Year.
He is one of four WHL players selected by the Seattle-based club, joined by Everett’s Julius Miettinen, Red Deer’s Ollie Josephson, and Swift Current’s Clarke Caswell.
