Calgary, Saskatoon to meet in WHL Playoffs for the first time in 25 years
The Calgary Hitmen and Saskatoon Blades are battle-ready.
The Eastern Conference squads will renew their postseason rivalry for the first time in a quarter century as they prepare to meet in Round One of the 2025 WHL Playoffs presented by Nutrien.
Calgary (45-17-3-3) is coming off its best season in a decade and enters the playoffs as the third seed in the Eastern Conference while Saskatoon (37-23-4-4) slots in at sixth.
Both teams were in contention for their respective division titles until the final match of the regular season.
This marks the third time the Hitmen and Blades will meet in the postseason and the first time since the 2000 WHL Playoffs, which saw Calgary sweep the Blades in the division semifinals.
Hitmen veteran Oliver Tulk is coming off his first 100-point regular season (38G-62A), while Calgary Flames prospect Hunter Laing has hit a new level in recent weeks to lead the Blades with 25 goals.
Despite entering the series as the sixth seed, Saskatoon owns a 2-1-1-0 record against the Hitmen this season.
The teams haven’t faced each other since February 14, 2025, when the Blades scored four unanswered goals in a 6-3 win.
Game One is set for Friday, March 28 at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
The series heads east to the Bridge City for Game 3 at SaskTel Place on Tuesday, April 1.
