2025 WHL Playoffs: Clinching Scenarios – Monday, February 17
On Monday afternoon, the Medicine Hat Tigers can become the first Eastern Conference team to clinch a berth in the 2025 WHL Playoffs, while two more Western Conference teams can confirm their participation.
The Victoria Royals can clinch a playoff berth with:
- Any Victoria win versus Everett
OR
- A Victoria OT/SO loss versus Everett; and
- A Kamloops OT/SO loss versus Spokane
OR
- A Kamloops regulation loss versus Spokane
The Spokane Chiefs can clinch a playoff berth with:
- Any Spokane win at Kamloops
OR
- A Spokane OT/SO loss at Kamloops
The Medicine Hat Tigers can clinch a playoff berth with:
- Any Medicine Hat win versus Lethbridge
OR
- A Medicine Hat OT/SO loss versus Lethbridge
OR
- Any Red Deer loss versus Edmonton
Victoria (32-14-3-6) is riding a 6-0-0-1 point streak to sit first in the B.C. Division and second in the Western Conference. The Royals will host the league-leading Everett Silvertips (38-10-4-3), who have already qualified for the postseason, at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Arena at 3:05 p.m. PST.
Spokane (36-16-1-1) travels north for another tightly contested tilt against the Kamloops Blazers (20-29-4-0) at 2:00 p.m. PST.
Blazers standout and 2025 NHL Draft-eligible forward Tommy Lafrienere scored with six seconds left on Saturday night to secure a 4-3 regulation win against the Kelowna Rockets and delay Victoria and Spokane’s clinching hopes.
Medicine Hat (36-16-3-1) is coming off a 1-0 shutout of the Regina Pats that saw Jordan Switzer post a 22-save clean sheet. Projected top 2026 NHL Draft pick Gavin McKenna will also put his 31-game point streak on the line when the Eastern Conference-leading Tigers host the second-stingiest team in the league, the Lethbridge Hurricanes (34-17-2-1) at 2:00 p.m. MST.
