2025 WHL Championship Game 4 Player To Watch: Hunter St. Martin, Medicine Hat Tigers
Spokane, Wash.- Hunter St. Martin is a big cat through and through.
The Medicine Hat Tigers forward and Florida Panthers prospect has left his tracks all over the 2025 WHL Championship Series.
St. Martin has a goal and three assists for four points in three games to tie for the most points of any skater in the big dance.
He’s as driven as ever with Medicine Hat sitting two wins away from the team’s first Ed Chynoweth Cup since 2007.
“We just had to stay hungry,” St. Martin said after a 6-0 win over the Spokane Chiefs in Game 3. “We brought our A-game last night, but they’re gonna come even harder, so we have to make sure that we do the same thing and we just outwork them and play our Tigers hockey.”
St. Martin, 19, has reunited with recently returned linemates Cayden Lindstrom (Columbus Blue Jackets) and Andrew Basha (Calgary Flames) after months of separation while the duo worked back from injury.
Basha and Lindstrom caused a stir across the hockey world as they scored in the first minute of Games 1 and 2 of the WHL Championship, respectively, with St. Martin picking up the primary assist on both tallies.
“Since I played with him when I was 16, he’s become a heck of a player, and I’ve always believed in him,” Lindstrom said following the Game 3 win. “He’s one of the better linemates I’ve ever played with. Just the way he skates, he’s so fast. He’s so great on the bench, too. He helps our line out quite a bit, and he contributes to the team a lot.”
In Game 3, Lindstrom returned the favour as he popped a pass off the pads of the Spokane netminder for St. Martin to hammer the rebound into the twine for a 2-0 lead.
Just over 3-0 seconds into the third period, St. Martin played set-up man again with the primary helper on Basha’s insurance marker.
“We play the game fast,” St. Martin said of the line’s chemistry. “We’re all pretty smart, I think. We’ve been together for a couple of years and we know each other pretty well, even though we haven’t played in a while. But I think the biggest thing is our speed in the game and our pace.”
The 6-foot-2, 182-pound winger has served up plenty of game-changing performances in the 2025 WHL Playoffs with five goals and nine assists for 14 points in 16 games.
St. Martin snagged an assist and buried the overtime winner in Game 4 of Medicine Hat’s first-round series against the Swift Current Broncos and a one-goal, two-assist effort in Game 3 against Prince Albert to force the Raiders to the brink of elimination.
The Florida Panthers inked the Edmonton, Alta. product to a three-year, entry-level contract in October of 2024 after selecting St. Martin in the sixth round of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
“It’s just kind of finding a 200-foot game,” St. Martin added. “I pride myself on playing on all areas of the ice. (I) play on the penalty kill, on the power play, just kind of doing a little bit of everything. That’s the biggest thing with my game. I just pride myself on playing hard, playing fast, with pace and trying to do everything.”
Shutting down St. Martin and his linemates will be a top priority for the Spokane Chiefs with Game 4 set for Wednesday, May 14 at 7:00 p.m. PST.
