Broncos’ Ulmer named WHL Player of the Week
Calgary, Alta. – The “Bank of Montreal / MasterCard” – Western Hockey League Player of the Week is forward Layne Ulmer of the Swift Current Broncos. Ulmer earned player of the week honours by recording 16 points (9G-7A) in four games, including four power-play goals and two game winning goals helping the Broncos begin the 2000-2001 regular season with a perfect 4-0 record.
Ulmer began the week on Friday, September 22, recording a hat trick and five points, including a short handed goal in a 7-6 win against the Moose Jaw Warriors. On Saturday, September 23, Ulmer scored one goal and added two helpers in a 5-3 win over the visiting Warriors.
On Friday, September 29, Ulmer recorded another five point night with two goals and three assists in a 5-2 victory against the Prince Albert Raiders. On Saturday, September 30, he recorded his second hat trick of the week in a 10-0 win over the visiting Raiders.
The 20-year-old from Biggar, Sask. was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
