Weiermair, who recently signed his entry-level contract with the Vegas Golden Knights, played a commanding and controlled game in his final season of junior hockey. Finishing the 2025-26 regular season in fifth place of the WHL with 93 points (37 G, 56 A), Weiermair played in 66 games with just 28 penalty minutes.<\/p>\n

The Portland standout is a fierce competitor and a dynamic player. Through his career in the WHL he has earned the respect of his teammates and opponents.<\/p>\n

Weiermair looks to become the fourth Winterhawk to win the Brad Hornung Memorial Trophy after Dave Archibald (1987), Lonny Bohonos (1994) and Seth Jarvis (2020).<\/p>\n

The Portland Winterhawks hit the ice in a must-win Game 4 and jumped out to an early lead. <\/span>Cole Slobodian<\/b> worked the puck along the far-side boards before sending it on net, where <\/span>Nathan Free<\/b> tracked down the rebound and buried his third goal of the series to make it 1-0.<\/span><\/p>\n

After a delay of game penalty on the Silvertips early in the second, Portland\u2019s five-forward power play unit capitalized. <\/span>Alex Weiermair<\/b> fired a shot from the point, and <\/span>Nathan Brown<\/b> created chaos netfront, tipping it in for a 2-0 lead. Everett responded with three goals to take their first lead of the night heading into the third period.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Silvertips added two power play goals in the final frame to extend their advantage. With just 10 seconds remaining in the season, <\/span>Ryan Miller<\/b> found the back of the net with his gritty effort, fittingly mirroring how the Hawks opened the year, off the captains\u2019 stick. The Winterhawks took the ice in front of a home crowd at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum and came out strong, knowing the importance of Game 3. Despite a solid opening frame from Portland, the Everett Silvertips carried a 1-0 lead into the second period and extended it with two more in the middle 20 minutes to take control.<\/span><\/p>\n

The game slipped out of reach in the final frame, as Everett erupted for four goals in a five-minute span, skating away with a 7-0 win.<\/span><\/p>\n

Eyeing Everett<\/b><\/p>\n

The Winterhawks defeated the reigning Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy champions Silvertips in seven games during the second round of the 2025 WHL Playoffs. Portland won games five and seven in Everett to clinch the series. Winterhawks netminder Ond\u0159ej \u0160t\u011bbet\u00e1k made 40 saves in the deciding game to send the Hawks onto the Western Conference Finals.<\/span><\/p>\n

The series opened with games 1 and 2 in Everett, where the Silvertips fed off the home crowd and set the tone early with a decisive 8-1 victory on Friday, followed by a tighter 4-1 win on Saturday. The series then shifted back to Portland for game 3 last night, where the Silvertips gathered another win to take a 3-0 advantage.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Everett Silvertips are powered by a dangerous core up front. The trio of Carter Bear, Matias Vanhanen, and Julius Miettinen, along with standout defenseman Landon DuPont, has driven the \u2018Tips through the first three games, combining for 21 points as a dominant force.<\/span><\/p>\n

Between the pipes, Everett is backed by a pair of 19-year-old netminders in Anders Miller and Raiden LeGall. Miller has started all three games in the series, posting three wins along with a stellar .70 goals-against average and a .957 save percentage.<\/span><\/p>\n

Winterhawks Enter 15th Straight WHL Playoffs<\/b><\/p>\n

The Portland Winterhawks officially extended their streak to 15 consecutive postseason appearances. This is the fifth-longest active run in the 61-team Canadian Hockey League. Twelve players will make their WHL Playoff debuts, but a robust core of veterans will lead the crew into another enthralling chapter of Winterhawks playoff history.<\/span><\/p>\n

Entering as the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference, Portland has drawn the top-seeded Everett Silvertips in the opening round. It marks the fourth straight postseason meeting between the U.S. Division rivals, with the Winterhawks winning each of the previous three encounters.<\/span><\/p>\n

Portland will host Game 4, presented by Toyota, and Game 6 if necessary.<\/span><\/p>\n

GAME SUMMARY:<\/b><\/p>\n

The Winterhawks took the ice in front of a home crowd at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum and came out strong, knowing the importance of Game 3. Despite a solid opening frame from Portland, the Everett Silvertips carried a 1-0 lead into the second period and extended it with two more in the middle 20 minutes to take control.<\/span><\/p>\n

The game slipped out of reach in the final frame, as Everett erupted for four goals in a five-minute span, skating away with a 7-0 win.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Winterhawks opened the scoring 9:36 into the first, as <\/span>Alex Weiermair<\/b> set up <\/span>Nathan Free<\/b> for a bar-down finish for his second tally of the playoffs and the team\u2019s first lead of the series.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Silvertips responded quickly, tying the game just 49 seconds later before adding two more goals and an empty-netter to secure a 4-1 win on home ice.<\/span><\/p>\n

Eyeing Everett<\/b><\/p>\n

The Winterhawks defeated the reigning Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy champions Silvertips in seven games during the second round of the 2025 WHL Playoffs. Portland won games five and seven in Everett to clinch the series. Winterhawks netminder Ond\u0159ej \u0160t\u011bbet\u00e1k made 40 saves in the deciding game to send the Hawks onto the Western Conference Finals.<\/span><\/p>\n

The series opened with games 1 and 2 in Everett, where the Silvertips fed off the home crowd and set the tone early with a decisive 8-1 victory on Friday, followed by a tighter 4-1 win on Saturday.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Everett Silvertips are powered by a dangerous core up front. The trio of Carter Bear, Matias Vanhanen, and Julius Miettinen, along with standout defenseman Landon DuPont, has driven the \u2018Tips through the first two games, combining for 15 points as a dominant force.<\/span><\/p>\n

Between the pipes, Everett is backed by a pair of 19-year-old netminders in Anders Miller and Raiden LeGall. Miller has started both games in the series, posting two wins along with a stellar 1.00 goals-against average and a .957 save percentage.<\/span><\/p>\n

Winterhawks Enter 15th Straight WHL Playoffs<\/b><\/p>\n

The Portland Winterhawks officially extended their streak to 15 consecutive postseason appearances. This is the fifth-longest active run in the 61-team Canadian Hockey League. Twelve players will make their WHL Playoff debuts, but a robust core of veterans will lead the crew into another enthralling chapter of Winterhawks playoff history.<\/span><\/p>\n

Entering as the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference, Portland has drawn the top-seeded Everett Silvertips in the opening round. It marks the fourth straight postseason meeting between the U.S. Division rivals, with the Winterhawks winning each of the previous three encounters.<\/span><\/p>\n

Portland will host Game 3, <\/span>presented by Werner<\/span><\/i>, as well as Game 4, and Game 6 if necessary.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Silvertips and Winterhawks opened the series in Game 1, where Everett fed off the home crowd and set the tone early, carrying that momentum to a decisive 8-1 victory.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Winterhawks now begin their pursuit of a fourth Ed Chynoweth Cup, last captured in 2013. In their 50-year history, the club has also reached the Championship Series five times and claimed the Memorial Cup in 1983 and 1998.<\/span><\/p>\n

Leading the Way<\/b><\/p>\n

Vegas Golden Knights signed prospect <\/span>Alex Weiermair<\/b>, led the Winterhawks in scoring this season with 37 goals, 56 assists, and 93 points, which was fifth best across all skaters in the Western Hockey League.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ryan Miller, the Winterhawks captain and a selection of the Pittsburgh Penguins, scored 30 goals in his 18-year-old season and set a new career high in points with 75.<\/span><\/p>\n

Goaltender Ond\u0159ej \u0160t\u011bbet\u00e1k<\/strong> from Jihlava, Czechia, appeared in a career-high 48 games during the 2025-26 campaign, posting a 3.40 goals-against average and a 0.897 save percentage. He held a record of 23-19-5-1 and earned his first career shutout in January.<\/span><\/p>\n

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]For the fourth consecutive season the Portland Winterhawks and Everett Silvertips will meet in a best-of-seven playoff series. This iteration comes as the No. 8 seed Winterhawks will take on the No. 1 seed Silvertips in the opening round of the 2026 WHL Playoffs presented by Nutrien.<\/p>\n

Last year it was Kyle McDonough\u2019s game winning goal in game seven on the road that sealed the series for the Winterhawks during an electrifying second-round set. Portland won both games five and seven on the road, after falling behind 2-0 to open the series.\u00a0 The win knocked off the reigning Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy winners and advanced Portland to the Western Conference Finals.<\/p>\n

One trip around the sun later, and the Silvertips have repeated as Munro champs with the best regular season record in the WHL (and CHL), and have the Winterhawks on deck for another playoff series. This series will follow the familiar 2-2-1-1-1 format that the NHL and NBA use for their postseasons. Games one and two will be held at Angel of the Wind arena in Everett on March 27 and 28, before making the trek south to Veterans Memorial Coliseum for games three and four on March 31 and April 1. If a game six is needed, that will also take place in Portland on April 4.<\/p>\n

The Winterhawks will host a Game One watch party at Grains of Wrath, and a Game Two watch party at Cartside.<\/p>\n

The Winterhawks and Silvertips split their season series 3-3-0-0, with Portland winning the first three meetings of the season, and Everett taking the second three. The Hawks first win of the season came against Everett in September; a road overtime victory courtesy of Nathan Free <\/b>just 40 seconds into the extra frame. Portland backed it up with a barnburning 7-6 shootout victory in November, and a 5-2 win on New Years Eve at the Glass Palace. Everett then took the rest of the series matchups in regulation 5-2, 4-2, and 8-5 \u2013 all those games coming in the final three weeks of the regular season.<\/p>\n

Alex Weiermair<\/b> led the Winterhawks in their yearly battle with the Silvertips, posting six goals and six assists for 12 points against Everett. Captain Ryan Miller <\/b>was next with nine total points from three goals and six assists. Right behind him was Free, an even four goal, four helper slate for eight points.<\/p>\n

Opposite the Hawks, Jesse Heslop<\/b> topped the Silvertips table with ten points against Portland this season; two goals and eight assists. Landon DuPont<\/b> is in second with two goals, six assists, and eight points. Then Tarin Smith<\/b> and Matias Vanhanen<\/b> are both tied with seven points on the season series.<\/p>\n

Exceptional status defenseman DuPont is tied in fourth for defensemen scoring, with 73 points on the season. Winterhawks rookie blueliner Will McLaughlin<\/b> has tallied a fantastic season from the point, with 30 points from nine goals and 21 assists.<\/p>\n

In the season series, both teams sent out their two goaltenders three times. For the Silvertips, Anders Miller<\/b> took a 2-1-0-0 record, with his only loss being the December regulation defeat. Raiden LeGall<\/b> struggled against Portland early in the season series, dropping the first two games of the season in overtime and a shootout. However he got his revenge with a win in the most recent game between the two teams on March 15, rising to a 1-0-1-1 record against the Winterhawks.<\/p>\n

Ondrej \u0160t\u011bbet\u00e1k<\/b> took home a 2-1-0-0 record in his three games, including the first two wins against the Tips this season. Cruz Chase<\/b> notched a 1-2-0-0 record, winning the New Years Eve meeting.<\/p>\n

Behind the Numbers<\/b><\/p>\n

On special teams, the Winterhawks went 7-for-20 in the powerplay against Everett. Everett, despite owning one of the top power plays in the WHL, only managed to go 3-for-18 with the extra skater.<\/p>\n

Home ice has been a boon for both sides all year, but Everett actually preferred it. The Silvertips went 29-5-0-0 behind enemy lines, one win better than at home. One of those road losses came against Portland in December.\u00a0 The Winterhawks hold a slight advantage when playing in the historic Glass Palace, with a 17-11-5-1 record at home.<\/p>\n
