Winterhawks reassign three players back to their respective clubs
Portland, Ore. – The Portland Winterhawks Hockey Club announced today, September 16, the reassignment of defenseman Cameron Jacobson to the Warman Wildcats U18 AAA of the Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League (SMAAAHL), defenseman Aaron Zulinick to the Kamloops Storm of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL), and center Jordin St. Louis to the Edge School U18 Prep of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League U18 (CSSHL U18).
The move brings the Winterhawks’ active roster to 29 with preseason roster players Tyson Jugnauth, Josh Zakreski, Jan Špunar, Carter Sotheran, and Kyle Chyzowski still away at NHL training camps.
Jacobson, a 4th-round (80th overall) selection by the Winterhawks in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft, had a strong 2024 Neely Cup, tallying one goal and two assists for Team De Leo. The blueliner made his Winterhawks debut in Portland’s matchups against the Spokane Chiefs and Wenatchee Wild on September 7 and 8. He returns to the Warman Wildcats after a productive season where he recorded 23 points (5G, 18A) in 44 games for the program. Jacobson signed his WHL Scholarship & Development Agreement with the Portland Winterhawks last week.
Zulinick skated in his first WHL games against Spokane and Wenatchee on September 7 and 8 after notching one goal for Team Mahon at the Neely Cup. Previously added to the Winterhawks protected list, the blueliner inked his WHL Scholarship & Development Agreement with Portland last week. He will play for the Kamloops Storm of the KIJHL after a huge season in the BCEHL that saw him tally 48 points (12G, 36A).
St. Louis, a first-round WHL Prospects Draft pick of Portland in 2024 will return to the Edge School U18 Prep program after his first Neely Cup and preseason matchups with the Winterhawks. The center had an impressive training camp, tallying two goals and 4 assists for Team De Leo at the 2024 Neely Cup, and wore the Winterhawks jersey for the first time in WHL action on September 7 and 8.
