The Story:
Nate Danielson scored his sixth goal and team-leading 22nd point of the postseason, but four Moose Jaw goals in the final 40 minutes helped the Warriors take a 5-1 victory in Game 2 of the 2024 WHL Championship.
Moose Jaw owns a 2-0 series lead as the series shifts to Saskatchewan.
Atley Calvert opened the scoring for a second straight game, finishing a 2-on-1 rush with Matthew Savoie in the first period. The Warriors extended their lead to three in the second period, first through Pavel McKenzie at 9:12, then through Brayden Yager at 18:00. The Winterhawks responded before the end of the frame through Nate Danielson, who hammered home a loose puck in front after some strong work on the forecheck by Marcus Nguyen. Portland’s momentum was quickly dampened in the third, though, by two Jagger Firkus goals in the first 5:35 as the Warriors held on for the 5-1 win.
Jan Špunar finished with 22 saves on 27 shots. Jackson Unger posted 37 saves on 38 shots.
Games 3, 4 and 5 will take place in Moose Jaw, Sask. next Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Puck drop for each game is 7:00 P.M. PT.
