Portland Winterhawks’ Month of Giving brings record-breaking results
The Portland Winterhawks’ annual Month of Giving was a resounding success, with fans and partners coming together to make a remarkable impact on the community. From providing meals to collecting toys and stuffed animals, the Winterhawks delivered a season of giving like never before.
Fred Meyer Hawks Fight Hunger
The campaign began on November 15 with Hawks Fight Hunger presented by Fred Meyer, an event that exceeded all expectations and made an immediate impact to the Oregon Food Bank. Thanks to generous contributions, we funded 13,635 meals from online donations — more than five times last year’s total. An additional monetary contribution from the Winterhawks and 1,924 pounds of food donated at the game (resulting in 1,605 meals, triple last year’s weight) brought the total to an incredible 18,990 meals for local families in need. And you can still donate!
Les Schwab/KPTV Toy Drive
On November 22, our Les Schwab/KPTV Toy Drive Night brought holiday joy to children across the region. Fans showed up in full force, donating an astounding 3,278 toys that will brighten the holidays for countless families. The night exemplified the giving spirit that defines the Winterhawks community.
Les Schwab Teddy Bear Toss
The momentum continued on December 8 with the highly anticipated LesSchwab Teddy Bear Toss, where fans shattered the franchise record by throwing 16,973 stuffed animals onto the ice. These donations will go to local charities, spreading warmth and comfort to children in need during the holiday season. This unforgettable event highlighted both the passion of Winterhawks fans and the power of hockey to bring people together for a good cause.

Throughout the Month of Giving, the Winterhawks also contributed to a variety of other initiatives, including Coats For Kids, Stumptown Strays, Medical Debt Relief, Shop with the Hawk, and the Winterhawks Foundation. These efforts underscore the team’s commitment to making a meaningful difference beyond the rink.
But the giving doesn’t stop there! On New Year’s Eve, the Winterhawks will partner with Toyota to give away a brand-new car during the Toyota New Year’s Eve Party. Join us as we ring in the new year and cheer on the Hawks as they face the Everett Silvertips in what promises to be an unforgettable celebration.
Thank you to our fans, partners, and community for making this year’s Month of Giving a record-breaking success. Together, we’re creating a brighter future for Portland and beyond.
