All Roads Lead Here
After six weeks of grueling playoff hockey, we’ve finally arrived at the 2024 WHL Championship! Just two teams remain in Portland and Moose Jaw, and each brings plenty of confidence in their championship credentials. The puck drops with Game 1 tonight and Game 2 tomorrow, right here in the Rose City.
Moose Jaw enters the final face-off with a 12-4-0 mark and three of the league’s top-five postseason scorers in WHL Player of the Year Jagger Firkus (27pts), Columbus Blue Jackets first-rounder Denton Mateychuk (27pts) and Pittsburgh Penguins first-rounder Brayden Yager (21pts). The Warriors knocked off the Scotty Munro Trophy Champion Saskatoon Blades in an incredible Eastern Conference Championship, with six of the seven games played going to overtime – including the decisive Game 7. Lynden Lakovic netted the OT winner in both Games 6 and 7 to send the Warriors to the Championship. Moose Jaw has relied primarily on goaltender Jackson Unger (12-1-2, .903 sv%, 3.14 GAA) in the postseason, though rookie Dmitri Fortin has seen time in two contests as well.
The Winterhawks have arrived in style with a 12-2-0 record, sweeping the Victoria Royals and Everett Silvertips in the first two rounds and ousting the top-seed Prince George Cougars in six games in the Western Conference Championship. The Hawks set a Club record with eight straight wins through the first two rounds and bounced back from their first defeat in Game 1 in PG to win three straight and take control of that series. Detroit Red Wings first-round pick Nate Danielson (21pts) has led the way offensively and earned WHL Player of the Week honors earlier this week for his stellar play in Round 3. Jan Špunar has started every game between the pipes and boasts a .923 sv% through 14 starts, giving the Hawks plenty of confidence in net.
With seven NHL-affiliated players on each team and a wealth of depth throughout both rosters, this matchup is more than deserving of the WHL’s biggest stage. Let’s drop the puck!
Game Day Guide
If you’re coming out to Game 1, we recommend arriving early to secure parking and help mitigate lines both for the game and for the concert at the Moda Center. For all WHL Championship games, VMC doors will open 90 minutes prior to puck drop (5:30 doors, 7:00 puck drop), giving fans an extra 30 minutes to get in and get fired up for game time!
The party starts early! 🥳
We're expecting large crowds for a dual-event day at the @RoseQuarter, and we recommend giving yourself ample time to get into the VMC for puck drop!#WHLChampionship | #FeedingTheFuture pic.twitter.com/g0aQYeyT69

Looking for something to do prior to doors? Dr. Jack’s is open at 4:30 P.M. today for fans to go grab food and beverages and enjoy a lovely PNW summer day before the action heats up in the Glass Palace. Once you’re in, enjoy fun concourse activations like face painting outside Entry GG and be sure to hit the team store if you need some new merch to help create a sea of red in the VMC!
Plus – grab a foldable noisemaker poster and keep an eye out for limited quantities of red light-up batons in the arena to help keep the electricity humming all night!
