Last Time Out
The Portland Winterhawks defeated the Kelowna Rockets, 5-3, earning their second straight win on the road last Saturday. Rookies Reed Brown and Carsyn Dyck kicked off the scoring with their first WHL career goals for a 2-0 tally in the first period. Dyck earned his shorthanded. Tyson Yaremko followed up with a goal of his own early in the second for the three-goal lead. Kelowna answered with three quick goals late in the middle frame to even the score heading into the third. The Winterhawks shut the door early in the final frame as Diego Buttazzoni scored 26 seconds in and Yaremko tallied his second of the night for the 5-3 final.
Silvertips Summary: Scouting the Opposition
The Everett Silvertips opened their season last weekend with a 4-3 loss to the Vancouver Giants at home. Winger Julien Maze tallied two points (1G, 1A) and Everett’s exceptional status player, Landon Dupont, recorded his first WHL point with an assist.
Earlier this week, Everett received all four of their NHL Draftees back from camps, including center Julius Miettinen and defensemen Tarin Smith, Kaden Hammell, and Eric Jamieson. The Winterhawks will look to keep their season-opening win streak going on Saturday in Everett.
