Hawks Fight Hunger
Today’s contest marks our annual Hawks Fight Hunger food drive, brought to you by our friends at Fred Meyer and the Oregon Food Bank!
Last year, Winterhawks fans donated 8,823 meals to folks in need in the Portland area. This year, we’re setting the bar even higher with a goal of 15,000 meals! Just one $10 donation provides 30 meals – so for the price of just two lattes from your favorite coffee shop, you can help more than two dozen people in our community.
You can make monetary donations online by clicking here OR by bringing non-perishable food items to the game – it all helps to combat hunger in our community! PLUS – the Winterhawks are proud to match all monetary contributions up to $3,000 through the link above!
So whether you’re coming to the game or not, we can all help make a difference on Hawks Fight Hunger Night!
Silvertippin’
The Winterhawks got the better of the Silvertips in both of their meetings thus far in 2023-24, winning big both on home ice and on the road. But early struggles have given way to a more consistent brand of hockey in Everett, leading the ‘Tips to 27 points on the year through 22 games. They enter tonight’s tilt with wins in four of their last five, though they are wrapping up a three-in-three this weekend, having split a home-and-home with Seattle on Friday and Saturday.
Led by import Dominik Rymon and Nashville Predators prospect Austin Roest, the Silvertips have been scoring in bunches with 15 goals in their last four games. Tyler Palmer has provided a steady hand in net, posting a .913 save percentage and a 2.33 GAA with eight wins on the year.
Though Portland holds the U.S. Divison’s top point percentage (.694), the race remains tight with both Everett and Wenatchee and every point is crucial. Coming off of a tough loss to Prince Albert on Friday, look for a focused Winterhawks side as they look to create some separation atop the division.
200 For The Captain
The reigning WHL Player of the Week is set to hit a BIG milestone! Gabe Klassen is expected to skate in WHL game #200 tonight, joining fellow 20-year-olds Jack O’Brien and James Stefan as current Hawks to hit that mark this season.
Klassen arrived in Portland as a first-round selection in the 2018 WHL Prospects Draft, making his Rose City debut in the 2019-20 season. Now in his fifth year as a Winterhawk and second as team captain, the Prince Albert, Sask. native has amassed 190 points (95 goals, 95 assists) through 199 games thus far. Klassen leads this year’s team in scoring with 31 points in 18 games – good for ninth among all WHL skaters.
Congrats, Gabe!
