“WHERE ARE THEY NOW?” – ALEX SCHOENBORN
Alex Schoenborn spent part of his junior career in Wenatchee, and five years later continues to play the game professionally, most recently with the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL.
A native of Minot, ND, the 6’1 – 201 lb. winger played high school hockey at home before venturing to Omaha where he joined the AAA Lancers 16U, earning his way to his first taste of junior hockey in a three game stint with the Lincoln Stars (USHL). The following season he began at the major junior level with the Portland Winterhawks (WHL) before coming to Wenatchee. He returned to the Winterhawks for three seasons, serving as an alternate captain in his final year of junior eligibility. In the 2014 NHL Entry Draft he was selected in the third round by San Jose. After his junior career ended, he split time for the next couple of seasons between the Sharks AHL affiliate (San Jose Barracuda) and their ECHL club (Allen Americans). Last season, he skated with the ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears. The Sharks did not make a qualifying offer this summer, leaving Schoenborn to become an unrestricted free agent.
