Third Period Power Play Markers Power Wenatchee to 3-1 Win Friday
GAME BOXSCORE
KENT, Wash. – The Wenatchee Wild have their first win of the young season, thanks in part to an extra-special night on special teams.
The Wild posted a pair of power play goals in the third period, and finished 5-for-5 on the penalty kill, en route to a 3-1 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds Friday at accesso Showare Center. Wenatchee was the first team this season to send pucks past Seattle’s goaltenders, after the Thunderbirds earned back-to-back shutout wins over the previous two weekends.
Wenatchee posted the game’s first four shots, but it was Noah Kosick who gave the Thunderbirds the game’s first goal, with a quick-release wrist shot from the right circle 12:54 into the game. The Seattle lead survived for almost 20 minutes, before Zane Torre’s tying goal at 12:28 of the second – Torre’s initial shot from the right half sailed high and wide off the glass, and he shoveled home his own rebound with a backhand toss past Marek Sklenicka.
The Wild amped up their special teams play in the third, taking the lead on the power play with 6:48 to go. Boston Tait’s shot from the point clipped Grady Wedman on its way to the net, tipping the Wild into the lead for the first time. With just under a minute to go and Simon Lovsin serving a late roughing penalty, Caelan Joudrey caught up to a loose puck at the Seattle blue line and pitched a 55-footer into the empty cage to seal the win.
Wedman’s goal was his second on special teams this season, after notching a shorthanded goal at the Everett Silvertips last Friday. Tobias Tvrznik was nearly unbeatable in net again for the Wild, stopping 41 Thunderbirds shots and surrendering only Kosick’s first-period marker. Sklenicka had a memorable night in net for Seattle despite the loss, turning away 25 of 27 Wenatchee shots.
The power play tallies were the first of the season for the Wild, while the penalty-killing unit continued a torrid start to the season after tying for the league’s best mark a year ago, running its total to 12-for-13 in the season’s opening four games. Seattle dropped to 2-1-0-0 on the season with the loss, while Wenatchee’s record climbed to 1-2-1-0.
The Wild continue a three-game road swing Saturday by heading north to face the Everett Silvertips. That game and next Friday’s visit to the Portland Winterhawks will give way to a nine-game homestand at Town Toyota Center, beginning October 10 against the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Saturday’s opening puck drop at Angel of the Winds Arena is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
Single-game tickets, group tickets and flex packages are all on sale for each of Wenatchee’s home games during the 2026-27 Western Hockey League regular season. 2026-27 season tickets also remain on sale by phone at 509-888-7825, or by visiting the team office at Town Toyota Center.
