ICE CHIPS
The Winnipeg ICE host the Medicine Hat Tigers tonight in a 7:00 face off at the ICE Cave inside Wayne Fleming Arena to open the Western Hockey League playoffs.
The ICE completed the 68 regular season schedule with a league best 57-10-1 record following a 5-3 decision over the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday. Conor Geekie scored three goals and chipped in with two assists. Connor McClennon scored twice as the ICE completed a 10 game sweep of the Wheat Kings in the Battle of Manitoba presented by Taylor McCaffery Lawyers. Mason Beaupit made 24 saves.

The ICE and Tigers played four times during the regular season with Winnipeg earning a 3-1 record. (Oct 1 @ MH 5-2 W / Jan 14 @ Wpg 8-3 W / Mar 1 @ MH 6-4 L / Mar 7 @ Wpg 3-1 W).
Connor McClennon (4-2-6), Matthew Savoie (2-4-6) and Ben Zloty (0-6-6) each lead the ICE with six points against the Tigers. Conor Geekie had a team high five goals.
Winnipeg had an 6-0 record versus Medicine Hat during the 2021-22 regular season led by forward Connor McClennon who registered 14 points (7 goals and 7 assists) in 6 games.

With 27 wins on the road, the ICE set a WHL record for road wins by a team playing a 68 game regular season schedule during the internet era. The 2018-19 Prince Albert Raiders won 26 games.
With 27 wins on the road, the ICE set a new franchise record eclipsing last season’s 24 wins in 34 games.
By scoring 325 goals this season, the ICE set a new franchise record eclipsing last season’s 317.
By scoring 157 goals on the road this season the ICE have set a new franchise record eclipsing the previous record of 140 during the 2000-01 season.
Defenceman Ben Zloty set a new single season franchise record for assists and points by a defenceman. Zloty had 81 points (13 goals and 68 assists). The previous record of 71 points was held by Brayden McNabb during the 2010-11 season. Zloty’s 68 assists is also a new single season franchise record for assists by a defenceman.
With 37 wins, Daniel Hauser set a new ICE franchise record for most wins by a goaltender in a single season. He eclipsed the previous record of 36 wins by Wyatt Hoflin in the 2014-15 season.
From October 12th to November 19th, the ICE set a new franchise record with a 15 game winning streak eclipsing the previous mark of 14 games held by the 2009-10 Kootenay ICE.
From October 15th to 22nd, Winnipeg became the first Eastern Conference based team to go a perfect 5-0 on the road versus the B.C. Division since the 2011-12 Kootenay ICE.
Carson Lambos was named the 24th Captain in ICE franchise history on October 6th.
The 19 year old returned from Minnesota Wild Training Camp where he appeared in three NHL preseason games. Connor McClennon, Owen Pederson and Ben Zloty were named alternate captains for 2022-23.
