A proud first-year member of the Western Hockey League, the Wenatchee Wild are continuing a celebrated WHL legacy that dates back to Edmonton, Alberta in 1996, continuing in Cranbrook, British Columbia and Winnipeg, Manitoba. These are the ICE alumni, who are now also members of the #WildFamily, making news in American pro hockey this week:
NHL
SAM REINHART (2010-15) – Became the 11th NHL player this season to reach the 90-point plateau after scoring points in back-to-back games for the Florida Panthers – his goal and assist helped to cap off a 6-0 win at Ottawa Thursday, in which the Panthers scored their fastest two goals to open a game in team history. He added an assist on Aleksander Barkov’s game-tying goal in a 3-2 loss to the Boston Bruins on Saturday.
ZACH BENSON (2020-23) – Played fewer than 15 minutes in each of his last three games, but tallied at least one assist in all three for the Buffalo Sabres, helping his team win two of three. One of his two assists came in a rapid-fire third period of a 6-2 win over the Washington Capitals last Tuesday, and he added assists on both of Jack Quinn’s goals in a 4-2 win Friday over Philadelphia. He picked up a power play assist Sunday, but managed nothing more in a 3-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings.
PEYTON KREBS (2006-11) – Added a pair of assists to his season total for the Vegas Golden Knights – he contributed an assist to Vegas’s 6-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks last Tuesday, and posted an assist on Jack Eichel’s second-period goal Friday in a 7-4 loss to the Arizona Coyotes.
AHL
CALE FLEURY (2014-18) – Worked a pair of point-scoring performances for the Coachella Valley Firebirds around his first NHL appearance of the season for the Seattle Kraken – his assist helped the Firebirds close out a 3-1 win over the San Jose Barracuda on Thursday, and his goal in the second period Sunday helped his team cruise to a 7-2 win at the Abbotsford Canucks. In between, Fleury stepped onto the ice for 13:30 of ice time on Friday in a 3-1 win at the Anaheim Ducks.
DAWSON BARTEAUX (2019-20) – Picked up an assist on the final Manitoba Moose goal in regulation Saturday, as the Moose landed a 5-4 shootout win at home against the Chicago Wolves.
JACK FINLEY (2021-22) – Ran off back-to-back power play goals Friday and Saturday and earned a nod as the Syracuse Crunch Player of the Week – his goal 8:25 into the third stood up as the game-winner in Friday’s 3-1 win at the Laval Rocket, and his second-period marker was one of the few highlights for the Crunch Saturday in a 5-2 loss to the Belleville Senators.
MIKEY MILNE (2018-22) – Highlighted a 7-2 Iowa Wild loss to the Hershey Bears on Friday with a power play goal, before earning assists on both Iowa goals in a 3-2 shootout loss Saturday.
HUDSON ELYNUIK (2012-18) – Picked up goals in back-to-back games for the Chicago Wolves, tying Friday’s game with 4:12 to go before taking a 5-4 shootout loss. He doubled up on Saturday with a pair of third-period goals in a 3-2 overtime loss, in a game in which he registered an incredible nine shots on goal.
ADAM CRACKNELL (2002-06) – Helped to cap off a 4-1 win over the Colorado Eagles on Saturday for the Henderson Silver Knights, notching an assist on Jakub Brabenec’s empty-net tally.
MICHAL TEPLY (2019-20) – Earned an assist in Saturday’s 3-1 Rockford IceHogs victory over the Grand Rapids Griffins – his point came on a second-period goal from LUKE PHILP (2011-16), his first goal since his season debut on March 16.
ISAAC JOHNSON (2019-20) – Notched his first goal with the Toronto Marlies on Wednesday in a 6-3 win over the Springfield Thunderbirds – his tally came just 15 seconds out of the second intermission.
ZACK OSTAPCHUK (2022-23) – Scored a goal and an assist in each of the Belleville Senators’ games this past weekend, starting with the second Belleville goal in Friday’s 3-0 win over the Springfield Thunderbirds. He was even more impactful in Saturday’s 5-2 win over the Syracuse Crunch, picking up an assist on Garrett Pilon’s opening goal before scoring the eventual winner on a second-period power play.
BRETT SUTTER (2003-06) – Scored his first goal in a month on Friday, depositing the puck into the empty net with 16 seconds left to finish off the Calgary Wranglers’ 5-2 win over the Bakersfield Condors.
ECHL
OWEN PEDERSON (2018-23) – Got his point streak as far as five games for the Maine Mariners, picking up assists Wednesday in a 5-2 win at Trois-Rivieres, and Friday in a 6-2 win over the Worcester Railers.
BRETT DAVIS (2016-19) – Earned an assist Friday in a 7-5 Rapid City Rush loss at the Idaho Steelheads.
JACKSON LEPPARD (2019-21) – Returned to the score sheet for the first time in three weeks, earning an assist Friday in the South Carolina Stingrays’ 5-1 loss to the Savannah Ghost Pirates.
Also on Wenatchee’s alumni list are the standouts from its Junior A era (2008-2023) – these players laid the foundation for the WHL’s future success in the Wenatchee Valley. These are Wenatchee’s Junior A alumni who are making news in American pro hockey this week:
DEVIN COOLEY (2016-17) – Earned his first NHL win Saturday with 34 saves in a 3-2 San Jose Sharks overtime victory against the St. Louis Blues.
JASPER WEATHERBY (2016-18) – Scored the game-tying goal Saturday in the Milwaukee Admirals’ memorable 4-3 win over the Texas Stars. Milwaukee trailed 3-1 entering the final eight minutes of regulation, but scored three straight goals on the way to the win.
