Greig Shines in 7-4 Win
Brandon, MB – It was a career night for Ridly Greig on Friday as he recorded his first WHL hat-trick and first career five-point night, lifting his Wheat Kings club to a 7-4 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers.
Greig and his linemates, Nolan Ritchie (3A) and Marcus Kallionkieli (1G-3A) combined for 12 points on the night en route to their third consecutive victory.
“Pucks are finally going our way,” Ritchie said on the Bounce 96.1 post-game show. “Its nice, we’re building some confidence and its fun to play hockey right now. We’ve been together for a couple of weeks. Our chemistry is really heating up and has shown on the scoreboard for us lately. It’s nice to get some guys healthy and get back to the basics. We’re a good team, but it’s taken us some time to get it sorted out.”
Nate Danielson, Vinny Iorio and Brett Hyland rounded out the scoring for the Wheat Kings, who got 30 saves from Ethan Kruger. Kruger has now won four of his last five starts.
Brandon’s top line has combined for ten goals and sixteen assists on this three-game winning streak.
“We have some really smart players that can make plays,” said Head Coach Don MacGillivray. “The big thing for us is we are putting way more pucks on net. We’ve gotten better in our own end and are spending more time in the offensive zone, which helps build confidence with the puck.”
The win improves Brandon’s home record to 6-5-0-0 and overall record to 9-10-0-0.
The Wheat Kings will look to move above .500 for the first time this season on Saturday night when the Prince Albert Raiders come to town. Tickets are on sale NOW at the Keystone Centre Box Office.
If you can’t make it to the game, Branden Crowe and Peter Gerlinger will have the call on Bounce Radio starting at 6:45.
