ALBERTA ROAD TRIP BEGINS TONIGHT
(Story written by Branden Crowe – Q Country)
Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The Brandon Wheat Kings open up a Central Alberta road trip tonight in Edmonton. (8:00 P.M MB time on Q-Country 91.5 FM or CKLQ 880 AM)
This three game road trip will see the Wheat Kings make a stop in Red Deer tomorrow (Saturday) before a matinee affair at the Saddeldome in Calgary on Sunday.
Brandon has lost three straight and are coming off a tough 7-2 loss on home ice Saturday at the hands of the Swift Current Broncos.
“We weren’t prepared and not ready to go off the start,” said forward Connor Gutenberg. “Being down 5-0 after the first period is not where you want to be and we need to turn it around this weekend.”
Brandon’s lone win came back on opening night when they thumped the Regina Pats 8-1.
“We played our game against Regina, and we have to get back to that,” added Gutenberg. “Playing fast, that’s what our game revolves around and that’s what we need to get back to.”
For a handful of players, this is their first overnight road trip in the WHL and playing three games in two and half days in three different cities posses a challenge.
“You have to battle through it,” said Gutenberg who has ridden his fair share of miles on the bus in two years. “Once we get into Edmonton everything needs to be the same. Get back to your pre-game rituals… Once the game starts it’s any other game and we need to be focused on the two points.”
As for the opponent tonight; Edmonton opened the season with back to back losses vs Red Deer but have won two of their last three including wins over Kootenay and Lethbridge.
Q-Country will go live from Rogers Place for the pre-game show at 7:30 P.M. (Manitoba time). Puck drop is slated for 8:00 P.M.
