I\u2019m sure I\u2019ll be back lots over the course of my lifetime.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Semeniuk was acquired from the Vancouver Giants in the offseason of 2023 ahead of the Warriors&#8217; 2024 WHL Championship run.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cFor a coach, you always have those guys that are like swiss-army knives, they fill whatever role you need them to,\u201d said Head Coach Mark O\u2019Leary. \u201cThat\u2019s what makes him so valuable, his ability to play any role that he needs to and, most importantly, to help the team find success.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In his first season with the Warriors, Semeniuk tallied eight goals and 24 points in 50 games played. Each season, Semeniuk bettered himself, and in his overage season, Semeniuk tallied 16 goals and 43 points.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe don\u2019t win [the 2024 WHL Championship] without that third line, and he was a big part of that,\u201d said Head Coach Mark O\u2019Leary. \u201c[Now], he\u2019s a guy the coaches can rely on to do the right thing the right way always.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During his time with the Warriors, Semeniuk billeted with teammates Brady Ness, for his first two years, Max Finley, and, this year, Benson Hirst.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201c[Ethan\u2019s] my billet brother, I\u2019ve lived with him for two or three years now,\u201d said Brady Ness. \u201cI\u2019ve spent a lot of time with him and made a lot of good memories. Being able to do that in Moose Jaw with the support we had and all the fans, it\u2019s something really special, and I\u2019ll truly remember it forever.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ziprick\u2019s first career goal came in the last regular season game of 2023\/2024. His second goal came two months later when the Moose Jaw Warriors were in a fight against the Drummondville Voltigeurs to keep their Memorial Cup journey alive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cA big moment like [his game-winner at the Memorial Cup] can do a lot for a guy,\u201d said Head Coach Mark O\u2019Leary. \u201cCredit to him, he didn\u2019t sit on [the momentum], he used it as a stepping stone to what we see now.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The momentum from his goal at the Memorial Cup, as well as increased opportunities due to players from the Championship team moving on, led to back-to-back career seasons for Ziprick.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cHe\u2019s been our best defenceman for two years now,\u201d said former captain Lynden Lakovic. \u201cHis confidence has built over the last two years, and just as a human being, learning to be a leader, his play on the ice has shown [his growth].\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In his first 84 regular-season games in the WHL, Ziprick tallied one goal and ten points. Over his next 68 games, Ziprick recorded 12 goals and 48 points. And, in the 68 after that, 20 goals and 56 points.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201c[Wearing this logo] meant the world to me,\u201d said Ziprick. \u201cBeing able to play with a lot of older guys [when I was young] and being able to get the mentorship from them, and then being able to carry that on in [as a leader], it meant everything to me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One defenceman that Ziprick was able to mentor during his time with the Warriors was 16-year-old Colt Carter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cHis leadership was top-notch,\u201d said Carter. \u201cHe leads by example, always doing the little things right and doing the right thing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ziprick will continue his hockey career next season in the NCAA, heading south to Bemidji State University.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI was able to keep in really good contact with them,\u201d said Ziprick. \u201cThey\u2019re really supportive of my game and everything [I\u2019ve been working on].\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MOOSE JAW, Sask. &#8211; After 220 regular-season games in the WHL, 188 wearing the Moose Jaw Warriors logo, graduating defenceman Aiden Ziprick reflects on his time in the friendly city.\u00a0 \u201cEver since I\u2019ve been here, I\u2019ve loved playing here,\u201d said Ziprick. \u201cThe Championship run is something I\u2019ll never forget. After 196 regular-season games over three seasons in the Moose Jaw Warriors\u2019 jersey, Pavel McKenzie is preparing for the NCAA.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt meant the world to me,\u201d said McKenzie. \u201cIt was always a dream of mine to play in the Western League, and for Moose Jaw to pick me up, it was a special moment that I\u2019m going to remember.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After going undrafted through the WHL Prospects draft, McKenzie was listed by the Warriors and made his WHL debut on September 22, 2023.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cHe\u2019s one of the smartest hockey players that we\u2019ve had in the last few years, and it makes him a guy that players want to play with,\u201d said Head Coach Mark O\u2019Leary. \u201cUsing his [hockey sense] to put himself in good places allows not only him to find success but his teammates as well.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In his rookie season, McKenzie found himself playing on a line with Brayden Yager and Jagger Firkus, tallying 15 goals and 36 points through 63 games and earning himself the rookie of the year title for the 2023-2024 season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWhat stands out with [Pavel] is his skillset,\u201d said former Captain Lynden Lakovic. \u201cOver the years, his confidence has gotten higher, and this year shows that with his production.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In his final season in the Western Hockey League, McKenzie tallied 17 goals and 66 points through 65 games, setting a career high in assists and points.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cHis legacy [in Moose Jaw] is that he is a champion,\u201d said O\u2019Leary. \u201cThe thing that I\u2019ll remember most about him is that he would find just as much excitement in his own success as he did with others.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Next season, McKenzie will head north to Fairbanks, Alaska, to continue his hockey career.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201c[Fairbanks] was interested in me,\u201d said McKenzie. \u201cI know people on the team and know of people that are going there next year, and I think it\u2019s going to be fun.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MOOSE JAW, Sask. &#8211; Although the season ended sooner than the Warriors would have liked, Captain Brady Ness still had a career year &#8211; both in points and in his growth as a leader.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cBrady leads from the front in terms of his approach to each and every day,\u201d said Head Coach Mark O\u2019Leary. \u201cHe influences teammates by doing the right thing in the right way always.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ness took over the reins as captain in December after the organization announced that Lynden Lakovic\u2019s season had ended due to an injury that required surgery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cBrady is the definition of a leader,\u201d said former Captain Lynden Lakovic. \u201cHe&#8217;s the hardest worker every day. What the fans don\u2019t see is that he&#8217;s in the gym first every day, he\u2019s on the ice first every day.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ness earned his \u2018A\u2019 back in February 2025 when Lynden Lakovic was named Captain, and since then, he\u2019s been a pillar of the Warriors\u2019 leadership group.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cEvery day I want to be the best leader I can be. It\u2019s such an honour [to captain this group],\u201d said Ness. \u201c[There will be] a lot of reflecting here in the next couple of weeks just on everything I can do [to be better next year].\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ness\u2019 first goal of the season came on December 5, an end-to-end masterpiece against the Medicine Hat Tigers. The team played in 22 games decided by a single goal. Of those 22, seven games ended in shootout or overtime losses, seven resulted in regulation losses, and eight left the team in the win column.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s a long season, but those competitive moments, they matter, and they add up over time,\u201d said O\u2019Leary. \u201cYou fight all season long to have an opportunity to play in the playoffs, and for it to be in our hands [on Saturday] and come up short, it\u2019s [tough].\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">With injuries to players who played or were expected to play key roles with the team, the Warriors&#8217; lineup over the season included many rookies and affiliated players who played large roles in keeping the team in the fight for the postseason.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI think everybody\u2019s a year older next year,\u201d said Ripplinger. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of [prospects] that are coming up next year that will be 17-18 year olds, and they\u2019re looking for spots on our roster as well.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Among the prospects that could be fighting for roster spots is Chase Petersen. The Warriors&#8217; penalty kill was tested just before the six-minute mark following a delay of\u00a0 game call to Moose Jaw\u2019s Connor Schmidt. The Warriors stood strong on the penalty kill to limit the deficit to one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Broncos tallied their second marker of the evening with under six minutes remaining in the period off the stick of Trae Johnson following a scramble in the crease. Late in the frame, Riley Thorpe was called for slashing, and the Warriors landed back on the penalty kill.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In a special-teams-dominant frame, Hudson Darby was called just before the one-minute mark of the second period to put the Warriors on the power play. The Broncos capitalized on a misplay behind the Warriors&#8217; net to take a three-goal lead at 7:31 of the middle period.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Not 90 seconds later, Swift Current\u2019s Anthony Wilson and Parker Rondeau and Moose Jaw\u2019s Ethan Semeniuk and Jan Trefny were all assessed minor penalties for roughing. Before the penalties were up, Josh McGregor was called for cross-checking, and the Warriors headed back to the power play.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Just after the penalty expired, Brennan Brown was assessed a minor penalty for roughing to land the Warriors back on the power play. At 15:34, Jan Trefny was assessed a minor penalty for roughing, and Swift Current\u2019s Sawyer Dingman was assessed a minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">With seconds remaining on the power play, Ethan Semeniuk was assessed a minor penalty for tripping. Back at even strength, Parker Rondeau was assessed a minor penalty for delay of game with under two minutes to play. Following a slashing call to Nolan Paquette at the halfway mark of the period, the Warriors landed on the penalty kill but were able to hold off the Broncos\u2019 power play.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Shooting from a nearly impossible angle with under three minutes in the frame, Casey Brown potted the Warriors\u2019 second of the night and the Warriors took a two goal lead into the first intermission.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In a special teams heavy middle period, the Warriors landed on the penalty kill just before the one minute mark following a holding call to Connor Schmidt. Just four minutes later, Connor Schmidt landed back in the box for a slashing minor. The Warriors penalty kill stood strong to keep the Broncos off the board.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Warriors landed on the power play just after the eight minute mark following a slashing call to Swift Current\u2019s Brendan Rudolph. The Warriors were assessed two further power play opportunities, both coming with under six minutes remaining in the frame. Josh McGregor was assessed a minor penalty for boarding and high-sticking and the Warriors had a 4:00 power play. This time the Broncos penalty kill stood strong to keep the Warriors lead from growing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Just seven seconds after returning to evens strength, Riley Thorpe tallied the Warriors third goal and the team carried a three-goal lead into the final intermission.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Three minutes into the final period, Noah Degenstein dropped the gloves in defense of teammate Cohen Williams. Both Degenstein and Swift Current\u2019s Sawyer Dingman were assessed minor penalties, Dingman for charging and Degenstein for unsportsmanlike conduct,\u00a0 and five minutes for fighting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Warriors were tested again on the penalty kill following a tripping call to Riley Thorpe at 13:03. This time, the Broncos power play could not be denied and Trae Wilke got the Broncos on the board.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the dying moments after Swift Current\u2019s goaltender was pulled for the extra attacker, Kash Andresen found the back of the empty net, but the goal was called off due to offside. With under a minute to play, Andresen fired again and this time the goal counted to seal the game for the Warriors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Warriors went zero for four on the power play and three for four on the penalty kill. In net, Chase Wutzke made 26 saves on 27 shots. Connor Schmidt got the game off on the right foot for the Warriors, notching the team\u2019s first marker just 96 seconds into the opening frame. Nolan Paquette followed just 50 seconds later to give the Warriors a two-goal lead before the three-minute mark. On the power play, the Pats struck back to bring themselves within one. The Warriors struck just a minute later with a goal off the stick of Steven Steranka. Kash Andresen and Aiden Ziprick added goals for the Warriors in the following periods to secure the lead.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Warriors are 4-0-1-1 against the Broncos this season. Their latest victory was on March 11, when they forced a shootout against the Broncos to take their fourth win in the regular-season series. In the shootout, Aiden Ziprick scored in the third round to keep the Warriors alive before Colt Carter sent home the winning goal in the fourth round.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Swift Current Broncos are 14-43-4-5 on the season. The team is 1-6-1-2 in their last ten games, and they are coming off a 4-2 loss to the Saskatoon Blades last Saturday. Hudson Darby leads the Broncos with 19 goals and 49 points on the season. Trae Wilke ranks second with 21 goals and 45 points, and Anthony Wilson rounds out their top three with 14 goals and 37 points.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The playoff race between the Regina Pats, Red Deer Rebels, and Moose Jaw Warriors is incredibly tight. Regina holds seventh place in the Eastern Conference, one point ahead of the Red Deer Rebels, who currently occupy eighth place. The Warriors are three points back of the Rebels.
