Warriors win 4-1 over the Kelowna Rockets
The special teams were the story of the game on Saturday night. The Moose Jaw Warriors power play scored four goals in a 4-1 win over the Kelowna Rockets at Mosaic Place. Kenton Miller had two of the four power play goals and was named the first star of the game. Andrew Johnson and Sam Fioretti tallied the other two. Travis Brown, Joel Edmundson and Andrew Johnson, all finished the night with two points.
The Warriors grabbed an early lead when they took advantage on their first power play. Fioretti scored three and a half minutes into the first frame with the assists going to Brown and Johnson.
The Warriors increased the lead with the man advantage again early into a period. Miller scored by deflecting a shot from blue line by Brown who picked up his second assist of the game. Andrew Johnson scored the third power play of the second period just past the midway point of the frame. Edmundson and Shane Gwinner picked the assists on Johnson’s goal. The Rockets cut the deficit to two when Shane McColgan scored a shorthanded goal. The power play cashed in for the fourth time when Miller notched his 10th goal of the season assisted by Cody Beach and Edmundson ,who picked up his second assist of the game.
Neither team added to the score in the third. Luke Siemens turned away all 11 shots he faced in the third and allowed one goal on 28 shots. Edmundson and Fioretti were named third and second star, respectively. Dylan McIlrath was named Hardest Working Warrior of the game by the broadcast team of Country 100 FM.
With the win Saturday night, the Warriors now sit atop the East Division and Eastern Conference of the WHL with 44 points. The Warriors have a three point lead over their next opponent, the Saskatoon Blades.
The Warriors now get a break from game action until Friday night as they head three hours north on the Louis Riel Trail to face the Blades. Game time is 7:00 p.m. from the Credit Union Centre (CUC) in Saskatoon. Warriors’ fans you can catch all the live play-by-play action on Country 100 FM.
