Team Grey’s Tobin Schaefer responded quickly to bring the score back even.  Following a second penalty to Team Grey’s Lajoie, this time a delay-of-game call, Team Red took the lead with a power-play goal from Kash Andresen just after the halfway mark. Team Grey rallied to even the game with a goal from Kobe Pellack with under five minutes to play in the first period.  Team Red exploded for three goals in the final four minutes of play with contributions from Rasums Kamarainen, Carson Smith, and Landen McFadden.  Team Grey opened the first period with an early goal from Charlie Tobin. Kobe Pellack notched his second of the evening under five minutes into the middle period to bring Team Grey back within one.  Following a high-sticking call to Team Grey’s Chase Petersen, the team held off Team Red’s power play. Landen McFadden found the back of the net for Team Red with just over five minutes to play in the second frame.  Near the halfway mark of the second period, both teams swapped goalies. For Team Red, Dylan Mingo took the net, marking the end of Cade Mitchell’s night. Mitchell made 20 saves on 24 shots. For Team Grey, 2011-born Gavin Craig took the net, ending Gavin Steeves’ campaign. Steeves finished the evening with 19 saves on 24 shots.   With under three minutes to play in the final period, Karter Lundmark notched Team Red’s seventh goal of the night. Team Red found themselves back on the power play late in the frame following a penalty to Team Grey’s Justin Castonguay. Colt Carter found the back of the net for the second time on the power play and Team Red carried a four-goal lead into the final period.  In a quiet third period, both teams were tested on the penalty kill following an early slashing penalty assessed to Team Grey’s Kobe Pellack and later, a slashing penalty to Team Red’s Derek Langkow.  In the overtime period, Team Grey notched two goals to bring themselves back within two. Mathieu Lajoie tallied Team Grey’s fifth goal at the 1:30 mark of the extra frame. Team Grey’s Justin Castonguay tallied Team Grey’s sixth goal with just over a minute remaining in the period.  In a shootout, Kobe Pellack notched the lone Team Grey goal while Karter Lundmark and Carson Deichert scored for Team Red. The Warriors open their 2026 preseason campaign on Wednesday, September 2nd in Regina. The Warriors will host the Swift Current Broncos at the Southland Co-op Centre in Assiniboia on Saturday, September 5. Darby notes that this season he’s looking to work on his offensive skills.  “The guys welcomed me in really well [and] I’m meeting a lot of [new guys],” said Darby. “[Being familiar with some of the other Saskatchewan-born players] helps a lot. It makes the transition [so much] easier; you’re going into a room knowing some guys you can chat with.”  Darby, originally from Swift Current, Saskatchewan, recognizes the impact of the representation of so many other Saskatchewan products looking to crack the Warriors’ roster this fall.  “[I feel like] sometimes Saskatchewan goes a little bit underrated in hockey. We don’t have many CSSHL teams, [most] of the guys are playing in the [SMU18AAAHL],” said Darby. “I’m obviously rooting for the Sask guys, being from here, I know a lot of the guys, [and] it’s been really good to see.” Another new face acquired over the offseason is goaltender Jordan Switzer. “[I’m] a guy that loves to compete out there, get his team wins, and do whatever it takes to win,” said Switzer. “I think there’s lots to prove, [with] new coaches, and things like that. [I want] to show every day that I’ll out-compete anyone here.” Switzer, a product of Edmonton, Alberta, notes that his familiarity with some of his new teammates, in particular, his childhood best friend Landen McFadden, makes the transition to a new team easier.  “I think as a new guy, you have a lot to prove, but I think I can still push these guys to be the best they can,” said Switzer. “There’s spots to be had [going into this season].” Extreme Hockey Training Camp continues throughout the weekend before wrapping up with an intrasquad game on Monday, August 31 at 5 pm. ]]> https://chl.ca/whl-warriors/article/news-warriors-finalize-coaching-staff-with-four-additions-ahead-of-2026-2027-season Thu, 20 Aug 2026 17:00:38 +0000 chlwebproduct https://chl.ca/whl-warriors/article/news-warriors-finalize-coaching-staff-with-four-additions-ahead-of-2026-2027-season MOOSE JAW, Sask. - General Manager Jason Ripplinger has finalized the organization’s coaching staff for the 2026 – 2027 season.  Darrin McKechnie and Rob Holoien have been hired as Assistant Coaches, Brett Clark joins the Warriors as the new Skills and Development Coach, and Ryan Pollock has been named Recruiting and Prospect Development Coach.  “We would like to welcome Darrin, Rob, Brett, and Ryan to the Moose Jaw Warriors.  All four bring a different hockey mind to our program, which will help our players and organization continue to grow, as we keep building to become an elite hockey club,” commented General Manager Jason Ripplinger.  From Mossbank, Saskatchewan, McKechnie was an assistant coach with the Regina Pats during the 2014 2015 season.  From 2015 to 2023, he was the head coach of the Regina Pat Canadians (SMAAHLU18).  During his time with the Pat Canadians, the team made the playoffs every year; they captured the 2016 – 2017 league championship, advanced to the TELUS Cup, and won the 2017 – 2018 Circle K Classic.  He served as an assistant coach with the University of Regina Cougars in 2024 – 2025.  From Melfort, Saskatchewan, Holoien was an assistant coach with the Battleford North Stars from 2018 to 2021, and was part of their 2018 – 2019 championship.  In 2022 – 2023, he joined the Prairie Hockey Academy, where he was a head coach and director of player personnel for the U17 Prep team.  In 2025 – 2026, he was an assistant coach with the Moose Jaw U18 Winmar Warriors.  From Wapella, Saskatchewan, Clark was selected by the Montreal Canadiens with the 154th overall pick in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.  He went on to play in 689 games over 14 years in the NHL with Montreal, Atlanta, Colorado, Tampa Bay, and Minnesota.  After his playing career, he joined the Avalanche as a team consultant from 2014 to 2019 and then as a development coach from 2019 to 2021.  He worked with the Colorado Rampage 18UAAA program as an assistant coach and Head coach from 2021 to 2026.  He is currently the head coach of the Okanagan Hockey Academy (Colorado) 18UAAA team.  From Regina, Saskatchewan, Pollock played five seasons with the University of Regina Cougars from 2000 to 2005 before heading overseas to Sweden for the 2005 – 2006 season.  Upon returning to Canada, he served as the associate head coach and assistant general manager of the Bonnyville Pontiacs (AJHL) from 2007 to 2012.  He spent nine seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in multiple positions within football operations.  In November 2025, he was contracted by the NHL to attend the Global Series in Stockholm, Sweden, to present on player and coach development and to meet with the Swedish Ice Hockey Federation.  The Moose Jaw Warriors open their 2026 Training Camp on Wednesday, August 26.  The 2026 – 2027 regular season opens on Saturday, September 19.  Contact the Warriors Office for ticket information. ]]> https://chl.ca/whl-warriors/article/signing-warriors-ink-import-forward-kamarainen-to-whl-scholarship-and-development-agreement Thu, 06 Aug 2026 19:30:45 +0000 chlwebproduct https://chl.ca/whl-warriors/article/signing-warriors-ink-import-forward-kamarainen-to-whl-scholarship-and-development-agreement MOOSE JAW, Sask. - The Moose Jaw Warriors have signed 2026 CHL Import Draft first-round selection Rasmus Kamarainen to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.  “We are excited to add Rasmus to our forward group,” said General Manager Jason Ripplinger. “He will bring us speed and skill up front.” In 43 games last season with Assat U20 in Finland, Kamarainen recorded 16 goals, 36 points, and 20 penalty minutes. Named to Team Finland for the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase, Kamarainen recorded an assist and four penalty minutes in five games. The Finnish team completed the tournament with a record of 2-3. Kamarainen will make his first trek to Moose Jaw ahead of 2026 training camp at the end of August. Mingo was drafted 41st overall at the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft. Following training camp, the product of Peachland, British Columbia, signed his WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.  Playing with RHA Kelowna’s U17 Prep team last season, Mingo recorded a .922 save percentage, a 3.11 goals-against average, and a record of 11-3-0. In three playoff appearances, Mingo earned a 1.67 goals-against average, a save percentage of .955, and a perfect 3-0 record, helping the team win the CSSHL U17 Prep title.  Mingo made his first start on February 20th at Temple Gardens Centre in Moose Jaw against the Prince George Cougars.
