Back from Utah Thorpe preparing for third season with Warriors
MOOSE JAW, Sask. – Following the conclusion of the Utah Mammoth’s Rookie Showcase, Riley Thorpe has returned to Moose Jaw ahead of the 2026-2027 home opener.
“I [was] super excited to go [and] learn, to see the faster pace of hockey,” said Thorpe. “I think as you go up in the levels of hockey, the game gets faster, and it gets stronger, so I think [being able to] adjust as quickly as I can [is important to] play my game.”
Thorpe and the Utah Mammoth rookies posted a 1-2 record against rookie teams from the San Jose Sharks, Los Angeles Kings, and Vegas Golden Knights.
“I want[ed] to learn from the older guys [in Utah],” said Thorpe. “Those guys are the best, so taking what I can from them and bring it here [and] applying it to my game [will help me] be ready for this season.”
Riley Thorpe and the Moose Jaw Warriors are gearing up for the home opener later this week, and Thorpe notes that many veterans feel there is something to prove heading into this season after two years of missing the playoffs.
“We’re definitely hungrier,” said Thorpe. “We’re going to do everything we can this year to battle for a spot in the playoffs.”
The Moose Jaw Warriors kick off the 2026-2027 season at the Temple Gardens Centre on Saturday, September 19. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 pm. Arrive early to take part in the outdoor tailgate, which includes food trucks, live music from Ray Rawlyk, and a beer gardens.
