[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Following the departure of 20-year-old Nolan Stevenson, the Penticton Vees have appointed Callum Stone the second captain of the Vees WHL franchise.\u00a0 <\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Stone enters his third season with the Vees in 2026-27 after being one of five players to make the jump with the organization from the BCHL to the WHL last year.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

The Vees defenceman says he was thrilled to find out he was going to wear the \u201cC\u201d for the team this season.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u201cI was super excited,\u201d he said. \u201cI think it was five seasons ago practicing, when I first stepped onto the ice (as an affiliate player) with the team, to now being named captain. It has been a journey but I\u2019m super excited for what this year and the future holds.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Stone led all Vees defencemen with a +7 rating in the playoffs and chipped in four assists in 12 games as Penticton made it to the Conference Championship Series before falling to the eventual WHL champions in the Everett Silvertips.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>He talked about what it takes to be a leader of the Vees.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u201cI think it\u2019s just leading by example,\u201d said Stone. \u201cYou don\u2019t want to be a drill sergeant, but you also don\u2019t want to just be a cheerleader. You want someone that the team can watch day after day and realize that\u2019s the standard I hold myself to. I would never say something that I won\u2019t be willing to do myself and I truly believe that that\u2019s the best way to go about leading a team, just leading by example and being the most consistent person in that domain.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u201cI think letting the coaches coach and then letting me as a player be a support to every single person on the team is also a very important part to making sure we are a cohesive group.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>The Kelowna, BC native follows in the footsteps of Nolan Stevenson who was also a three-year member of the Vees and says there is a lot to take away from the former Vee as he steps into the role.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u201cI think Nolan Stevenson was an unbelievable role model,\u201d Stone said. \u201cFor me as a rookie in the BCHL and also last year, navigating us through that first year in the WHL. I think the biggest thing that Nolan was really good at is just understanding the ebbs-and-flows of a season. Having high moments and low moments but being neutral through it all. Not letting bad events maybe ruin some of the success you\u2019vehad.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u201cI think how he handled that in the WHL in our first season is something I want to bring to the organization next year.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>The Vees have announced one assistant captain for next year as AJ Reyelts will return between the pipes for his 20-year-old season. Although the Vees star goaltender won\u2019t physically wear an \u201cA\u201d, Stone is excited to have Reyelts by his side.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u201cWhen I heard AJ was returning, he\u2019s a player that automatically makes our team a contender for whatever championship you want to think about,\u201d Stone explained. \u201cHe\u2019s a great leader in the room. To have his support and to be able to communicate with him as a teammate, but more importantly as a friend, is something that is going to be really important next year.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Stone and the Vees will begin their campaign in early September and he says he\u2019s just counting down the days.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u201cI\u2019ve been counting the weeks since the season ended,\u201d he said. \u201cI think having the start we had in the WHL last year has really left me with a lot of excitement for what this season holds.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u201cIn all honesty, since watching the Memorial Cup in Kelowna, the biggest thing I\u2019ve been thinking about is, it may seem like a very ambitious and lofty goal but, I really want to head to Guelph (the host of the 2027 Memorial Cup) and compete for the Memorial Cup in 2027.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

The Vees receive the playing rights to 2007-born, Canadian forward, Graham Jones and a 2026 2nd round pick in the CHL Import Draft. In return, the Vees have moved a 2029 4th round pick, a 2030 3rd round pick and their 1st round pick in the 2026 CHL Import Draft to the Victoria Royals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones, a native of Winnipeg, MB, spent last season with the Fargo Force of the USHL racking up 26 goals and 26 assists in 61 games played, tacking on 10 points in nine playoff games this past season. He led the Force in goals and was second in points. Jones was a member of the Shattuck St. Mary\u2019s program from 2022-25 registering over 200 points while with the prep school.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGraham is a dynamic forward that attacks the game offensively,\u201d said Vees president, head coach and general manager Fred Harbinson. \u201cHis creativity with the puck not only gives him opportunities to score, but also places his line mates in positions to do the same.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHis competitiveness to want to win ultimately is what drew us to make this deal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones won a US 18U National Championship in 2025 with Shattuck St. Mary\u2019s where he collected 11 points in six games in the tournament. He also registered 13 points in seven games played at the Circle-K Classic in Calgary that same year. <\/span><\/p>\n

Pederson is coming off his first full season in the USHL as a 17-year-old with the Lincoln Stars, where he put up eight goals and 21 assists in 58 games. He registered 52 points in 27 games with Shakopee High in the Minnesota High School league in 2025-26 and also put up 22 points in 20 games in the UMHSEHL.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Shakopee, MN native was taken 12th overall in the USHL Draft in 2024.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to add Nate to our organization,\u201d said Vees director of scouting Adam Sergerie. \u201cHe is a highly dynamic player who brings an impressive combination of skill, creativity, and hockey sense. His rush play is exceptional, driven by his separation speed. His puck control and edge work allow him to excel in small-area situations and create offense in tight conditions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEqually important is his awareness away from the puck, as he consistently finds open ice and positions himself as a scoring threat. He has a strong ability to capitalize on opportunities and make an impact offensively.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Pederson stands at 5-FOOT-9 and 161 lbs. He played for USA at the U17 Five Nations tournament in 2024 and notched one goal and four assists in four games. <\/span><\/p>\n

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]The Penticton Vees announced today the signing of American forwards Tyden and Tate Bergeson.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tyden Bergeson is the older of the two brothers (2007-born) and spent the 2025-26 season with the Madison Capitals of the USHL producing 11 goals and 11 assists in 23 games-played in the regular season. Tyden added nine points in 11 playoff games with the Capitals this season as his team made a push to the USHL conference final. He also played for Moorhead High in the USHS-MN league picking up 81 points in 31 games played.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tate Bergeson (2011-born) was the third-round pick of the Vees in this past WHL Prospects Draft. He played for MN Blue Ox 14U AAA this past season notching 15 goals and 15 assists in 18 games played.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we recruit a player we say we are recruiting a family and in this case we really are,\u201d said Vees head coach and general manager Fred Harbinson. \u201cOnce I got to know the Bergeson family it was evident that the entire family are winners through and through. Tyden leading his High School team to Back to Back State championships and then capped off by going to the USHL conference championship is an incredible achievement.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhile Tyden adds talent to our current roster, his younger brother Tate will be a huge addition as we build our future. Both Tyden and Tate bring a competitive spirit with the skill necessary that give their teams an opportunity to win.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve had many brothers over my time coaching in Penticton and I look forward to coaching the Bergeson brothers over the next few seasons.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Tyden Bergeson was named Mr. Hockey in the state of Minnesota this past season which is awarded to the most outstanding senior in Minnesota high school hockey each year. He is also a back-to-back Minnesota high school AA state champ with Moorhead, their first ever hockey state championships in school history. <\/span><\/p>\n

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]The Penticton Vees announced today the signing of Canadian forward Liam Bordt. Bordt was selected in the first round, 20th overall, by the Vees in the WHL Prospects Draft last week.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Langley, BC native spent the 2025-26 season with NAX in the CSSHL U15 Prep league registering a combined 24 goals and 24 assists in 29 games-played in the regular season. He also notched four goals and one assist in four CSSHL playoff games. On top of that, he suited up for six games with the NAX U18 prep team earning one assist.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Bordt joined NAX this season following a move from Burnaby Winter Club where he had 32 points in 30 games in the 2024-25 season with the U15 Prep organization.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re excited to officially sign Liam to his Standard Player Agreement,\u201d said Vees director of scouting Adam Sergerie. \u201cHe represents an important part of our future, and we look forward to our fans seeing him in a Vees jersey.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe has hard skill, he can be physical, he can get takeaways and he hunts and strips pucks. In my opinion he has one of the best shots in the draft. He can beat you in tight or from range and he cracks the one-timer really well already for a 14-year-old, it\u2019s incredible.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Bordt stands 5-FOOT-10 and 159 lbs. He was also a member of Team Yellow at the BC U16 Cup this past season picking up two goals in three games. <\/span><\/p>\n

First Round, 20th Overall:<\/strong> RW Liam Bordt<\/em><\/p>\n

The Vees used their first pick of the draft, 20th overall, on right-wing Liam Bordt from Langley, BC. Liam stands at 5-FOOT-10, 148-pounds and registered 24 goals and 24 assists in 29 games played with NAX in the CSSHL U15 AAA league.<\/p>\n

Third Round, 66th Overall: <\/strong>C <\/em>Tate Bergeson<\/em><\/p>\n

The Vees used their first pick of day two, 66th overall, to take centre Tate Bergeson from Moorhead, MN. Bergeson stands 5-FOOT-5 126-pounds and had 15 goals and 15 assists in 18 games with his MN Blue Ox 14 team this season.<\/p>\n

Fourth Round, 82nd Overall: <\/strong>C\/LW Cody Paul<\/em><\/p>\n

The Vees moved a 2026 7th Rond pick and a 2027 3rd round pick to Kamloops to move up and take C\/LW Cody Paul with the 82nd overall pick. The Colorado Springs, CO product \u00a0stands 6-FOOT-1 152-pounds and had 12 goals and 26 assists in 40 games played with the Colorado Rampage 16U AAA program this season.<\/p>\n

Sixth Round, 129th Overall:\u00a0<\/strong>C Connor Martinson<\/em><\/p>\n

The Penticton Vees made another trade into the sixth round moving a 2030 fourth-round pick to the Spokane Chiefs for 129th overall where they grabbed C Connor Martinson from Duluth, MN. Martinson stands 5-FOOT-7 140-pounds and registered 33 goals and 53 assists in 58 games with Duluth East Bantam AA this past season.<\/p>\n

“Connor Martinson presents as a well-rounded centre with a strong foundation in his game. He exhibits good balance and strength on his skates, which enables him to maintain possession and protect the puck effectively.”<\/p>\n

Eighth Round, 181st Overall:<\/strong> C Jake Gerstenbuhler<\/em><\/p>\n

The Penticton Vees used their eighth round pick on C Jake Gerstenbuhler from Lethbridge, AB. Gerstenbuhler stands 5-FOOT-6 139-pounds and registered 12 goals and 12 assists in 25 games with Calgary IHA Prep U15 this past season.<\/p>\n

The Vees used their ninth round pick to select C Mason Dalbec from Buffalo, MN. Dalbec stands 5-FOOT-9 141-pounds and registered 9 goals and 24 assists in 42 games this season split between MN Polars 14U AAA and Buffalo High.

Tenth Round, 227th Overall:<\/strong> C Declan Champagne<\/em><\/p>\n

The Vees used their 10th round pick to select C Declan Champagne from Winnipeg, MB. Champagne stands 5-FOOT-11 147-pounds and registered nine goals and 13 assists in 23 games played with RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg U15 Prep this season.<\/p>\n

Eleventh Round, 250th Overall:<\/strong> G Jace Zemanek<\/em><\/p>\n

The Vees wrapped up their 2026 draft selecting G Jace Zemanek in the 11th round out of Port Alberni, BC. Zemanek stands 5-FOOT-11 165-pounds and went 14-1-0 this season with Delta U15 Prep and sporting a 1.52 goals against average and a .933 save-percentage.<\/p>\n

Katz spent the 2025-26 season with the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL registering 30 goals and 27 assists in 60 games played in the regular season. His 30 goals were tied for seventh most in the USHL.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Dellwood, MN native played four seasons with Shattuck St. Mary\u2019s prior to joining the USHL registering 156 goals and 344 points in his time with the organization.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGavin has an elite offensive track record,\u201d said Vees head coach and general manager Fred Harbinson.\u00a0 \u201cHe produced over 300 points during his time at Shattuck St Mary\u2019s, along with being the seventh leading Goal scorer in the USHL this past season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Nolan Stevenson got things going for the Vees 15:33 into the opening frame giving the Vees the 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After Everett tied the game, Jacob Kvasnicka took a pass from Callum Stone in the high slot and fired it home for his eighth post-season goal to make the score 2-1 heading into the third period.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Everett scored twice exactly two minutes apart to give them their first lead.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Vees would pull their goaltender but the Silvertips would find the empty net to make the final 4-2.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Series So Far: <\/b>The two teams played the opening 40 minutes quite evenly in Game 1. The Silvertips got a fortunate bounce to make the game 3-1 late and then played solid, lock-down defence the rest of the way adding an empty netter to make the final 4-1.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Game 2 saw the Vees battle back from three different one goal deficits with Ethan Weber tying the game 4-4 with 56 seconds to go to send it to overtime. It was the Silvertips who found the net on the powerplay in double OT to take the 5-4 win and 2-0 series lead. AJ Reyelts stopped 48-of-53 shots he faced in the loss.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Vees and Silvertips once again clashed in a tight battle in Game 3. Everett struck twice early in the third to take a 4-2 lead but Brady Birnie got the Vees within one with his team leading ninth goal of the post-season. Despite a handful of chances late, the Vees couldn\u2019t even the score for a second straight game and fell 4-3.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Vees Player to Watch: D Ethan Weber: <\/b>Weber<\/span> has scored in back-to-back games for the Vees in this series. The defenceman has four goals so far in the post-season to lead all Vees from the back end.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fast Fact:<\/b> There have been three 3-0 series comebacks in the WHL with the most recent coming in Round 2 of 2023 with the Saskatoon Blades reverse-sweeping the Red Deer Rebels.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
