Prince Goerge took early momentum with two shorthanded goals in the first period off the sticks of Terik Parascak and Tyrone Sobry.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Cougars would add a powerplay goal and a late goal five-on-five to make it 4-0 after the opening 20.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dawson Seitz picked up his first of the playoffs which was the lone goal in the second making it 5-0.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After the Cougars made it 6-0, the Vees found the back of the net as Chase Valliant made a great pass from behind the net to Louie Wehmann who buried his fourth of the playoffs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Brady Birnie added a late marker to make the final 6-2.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Cougars stole a puck at the Vees line and went in on goal with Jett Lajoie beating AJ Reyelts five-hole to make the score 1-0 after 20 minutes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Cougars would add another on the powerplay late in the second period off the stick of Tarek Parascak to send the game 2-0 to the final frame.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Prince George pushed the game further out of reach just 43 seconds into the third and added an empty netter to make it 4-0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Vees used their depth and smothering play in the offensive zone to dispatch the Seattle Thunderbirds in five games. The Vees hit the 40+ shot mark in all but one game in the series. Penticton went 3-0 at home and 1-1 on the road in the opening series.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Cougars took down the Spokane Chiefs in six games in the first round. They used a dominating powerplay to go 52.9% striking on nine of 17 opportunities in the opening round, guiding them to the first round series victory.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]The Penticton Vees announced today the signing of Canadian defenceman Jackson Schneider for the 2026-27 season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Schneider comes over from the USHL where he spent the 2025-26 season with the Waterloo Black Hawks registering 15 points in 52 games played.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Calgary, AB native stands 6-FOOT and 179 lbs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cJackson is a hard-nosed, two-way transitional defender who defends exceptionally well and plays with fearlessness,\u201d said Vees director of scouting Adam Sergerie. \u201cHe\u2019s very efficient in advancing pucks under pressure, and we\u2019ve been really impressed with how much his puck skills have grown this past season.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBoth players (Schneider and Tyler Deakos who was also signed earlier today) will be key pieces for next season, and we\u2019re looking forward to seeing them make a strong impact as part of our group.<\/span><\/p>\n

Schneider spent time with Sherwood Park and Camrose of the AJHL before making the move to the USHL this past season and was part of the Calgary Buffaloes Telus Cup run in 2024. <\/span><\/p>\n

Deakos spent the 2025-26 season with the Drumheller Dragons of the AJHL and the Waterloo Black Hawks of the USHL registering a combined 32 points in 29 games played in the regular season before a shoulder injury cut his season short.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>The Canmore, AB native played two seasons with the Airdrie Bisons of AEHL U18 putting up 66 points in 60 regular season games played.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u201cTyler is a strong 200-foot player who\u2019s responsible at both ends of the rink,\u201d said Vees director of scouting Adam Sergerie. \u201cHe\u2019s at his best when he\u2019s forechecking and creating turnovers, and he\u2019s tough to knock off the puck thanks to his inside protection.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u201cHe has one-shot ability and can beat goalies off the rush. His game has matured significantly, and he\u2019s shown he can play in every situation.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tale of the Tape<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Goaltending Duel<\/b><\/p>\n

The Vees and Cougars have sported some of the best goaltending in the WHL and that continued into the first round of the playoffs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

AJ Reyelts:<\/em> <\/span>The Vees goaltender took the majority of the starts in round one against the Thunderbirds playing in four of the five games with Ethan McCallum starting game four. Reyelts went 4-0 with a 2.19 GAA (5th in the WHL) and a .925 save percentage (5th in the WHL). Against the Cougars this season the native of Proctor, MN went 2-0-1-0 in three starts stopping 70-of-81 shots he faced.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Joshua Ravensbergen: <\/span><\/em>Ravensbergen started all six games in the Cougars first round. Through round one he went 4-2 with a 2.75 GAA (9th in the WHL) and a .918 save percentage (7th in the WHL). Against the Vees this season Ravensbergen went 1-2-0-0 sporting a .907 save percentage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ravensbergen was the 30th overall draft pick by the San Jose Sharks in last year\u2019s NHL Entry Draft.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A Battle Brewing<\/b><\/p>\n

The Vees and the Cougars quickly developed a rivalry in Penticton\u2019s inaugural season, combining for 190 penalty minutes in six regular season games including 68 in the second last meeting of the season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There were six fighting majors handed out to each team capped off by a goaltender fight between McCallum and Ravensbergen at the South Okanagan Events Centre during a Vees 3-0 victory.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Head-To-Head<\/b><\/p>\n

The Vees defeated the Cougars in five of six regular season contests. Penticton outscored the Cougars by a 25-15 margin but three of the six games were decided by one goal including two going to overtime. Each team won one game in extra time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Vees went 3-0 at home and 2-0-1 on the road in the season series.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Players to Watch<\/b><\/p>\n

Penticton:<\/span><\/em> Vees forward <\/span>Jacob Kvasnicka<\/b> continued on from his dominating regular season registering nine points (five goals and four assists) in five games in Penticton\u2019s first round meeting with the Thunderbirds. <\/span>Nolan Stevenson <\/b>had a solid opening round picking up four points. The Vees captain managed a +1 plus\/minus while racking up big minutes against some of Seattle’s top forwards.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Prince George: <\/em>Brock Souch <\/b>had himself a big first round leading the Cougars in scoring with five goals and six assists. Projected Top 10 pick <\/span>Carson Carels <\/b>will also be someone to keep an eye on. He registered four assists in round one after a regular season campaign that saw him put up 73 points in 58 games.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ryden Evers got the game started, jamming home a puck from the high-slot, to make it 1-0 with his fourth of the post-season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After the Thunderbirds tied the game, Louie Wehmann made a great individual effort up the ice finishing on the backhand to make the score 2-1 after the first period.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Vees added to their lead in the middle frame with Nolan Stevenson sneaking a shot through from the point for his first WHL playoff goal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Wehmann added his second of the night on the powerplay to make the score 4-1 heading into the third period.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jacob Kvasnicka was taken down on a breakaway leading to a penalty shot. The Vees forward made a great move and finished it off to make the score 5-1.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Seattle answered with two goals of their own but Kvasnicka found the empty net late to make the final score 6-3.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Vees will wait until the Prince George vs Spokane series wraps up to find out their opponent for Round 2.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In their first ever WHL playoff game the Vees used a strong penalty kill and solid play from their goaltender AJ Reyelts to guide them to a 3-2 OT victory.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In Game 2, the Vees were dominant from start to finish on their way to a 4-1 win and 2-0 series lead. Jacob Kvasnicka and Tristan Petersen each had a goal and an assist in the Game 2 victory.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Game 3, the two teams went back-and-forth for much of the night. Penticton would strike twice in the third and hang on to a 4-3 victory.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Thunderbirds stayed alive in Game 4 scoring the first four goals of the game before hanging on for a 4-3 win. The Vees outshot Seattle 53-20 in the loss.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Vees penalty kill has gone 13\/13 in their four games in the post-season and are the last team in the playoffs not to give up a goal while down a man.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]The Vees battled back from a 4-0 deficit and got within one but couldn\u2019t find the equalizer late, falling 4-3 to the Thunderbirds in Game 4.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Seattle opened the scoring for the first time in the series making it 1-0 after 20 minutes of play.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Matthew Gard, Brock England and Coster Dunn all scored in the second period for the Thunderbirds before the Vees found the scoreboard. Brittan Alstead wired a puck past Marek Sklenicka on the powerplay to make it 4-1 heading into the final frame.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On a mishandle behind the net 24 seconds into the third, Jacob Kvasnicka threw a puck out front that was batted home by Ryden Evers for his third of the playoffs to make the score 4-2.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fresh out of the penalty box Matteo Danis found Samuel Drancak all alone and he finished five-hole to get the Vees within one, 4-3 with 4:27 remaining.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Penticton had plenty of late chances to even the game but Sklenicka made some timely saves to keep the series alive for Seattle and give them the 4-3 win.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Vees will get another opportunity to close out the series Friday at the SOEC.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
