The Tigers claimed the first two games of the season set, claiming 3-2 and 7-1 victories on November 29 and December 3, respectively. The Raiders secured the final two contests, beating Medicine Hat by scores of 8-5 and 5-1 on January 17 and January 24, respectively.   Jonas Woo, who was ranked 179th among North American skaters in NHL Central Scouting’s final rankings for the 2026 NHL Draft, the Tigers in scoring against the Raiders this regular season, tallying six points (3G-3A) in four games. Fellow 2026 NHL Draft eligible Markus Ruck, who is ranked 23rd among North American skaters, also registered six points (1G-5A) in four games.   San Jose Sharks prospect Max Heise recorded seven points (4G-3A) in four games for the Raiders, while Dallas Stars prospect Brandon Gorzynski played a season high seven games against the Medicine Hat – two as a member of the Raiders and five as a member of the Calgary Hitmen. Gorzynski collected six points (3G-3A) over his seven outings.   Between the pipes, 2026 NHL Draft eligible netminder Michal Orsulak went 2-2-0-0 with a 3.94 goals-against average and .876 save percentage for the Raiders, while Jordan Switzer went 2-2-0-0 with a 3.52 GAA and .870 SV% for the Tigers.   The two teams last met during the second round of the 2025 WHL Playoffs, with Medicine Hat sweeping Prince Albert in four games en route to winning the 2025 WHL Championship.   STATS   2025-26 Standings:

The Edmonton Oil Kings and Portland Winterhawks both boast six players, while the Calgary Hitmen, Prince George Cougars, and Vancouver Giants all have five players ranked by NHL Central Scouting.]]> Tigers Advance To Eastern Conference Championship After 5-2 Win Over Hitmen https://chl.ca/whl-tigers/article/tigers-advance-to-eastern-conference-championship-after-5-2-win-over-hitmen Thu, 16 Apr 2026 03:45:41 +0000 chlwebproduct https://chl.ca/whl-tigers/article/tigers-advance-to-eastern-conference-championship-after-5-2-win-over-hitmen Calgary, AB - The Tigers took on the Hitmen for Game 4 of Round Two on Wednesday, April 15th in the Scotiabank Saddledome.   Medicine Hat had Calgary on the brink of elimination going into Game 4 as they carried a 3-0 series lead and were looking to complete the sweep with one more win to make their second consecutive Easter Conference Finals appearance.   Their effort to closing out the series was great out of the gate as the Tigers were the first on the board with Noah Davidson's fourth of the playoffs at 5:59. After Luke Cozens battled the puck to Davidson, he fired a laser of a wrist shot over Eric Tu's shoulder for a stunning goal to make it 1-0 Tigers.   Calgary pressed hard on Medicine Hat to get back in the game, posting 12 shots in the first period. They eventually responded with Blake Vanek's first goal of the playoffs at 9:49.   The Tigers took their game to another level in the middle frame, putting 14 shots on goal to Calgary's nine.   Veeti Väisänen restored the Tiger lead at 10:23 in the second period with an incredibly accurate wrist shot from the point off of a switch play with Bryce Pickford.   For the first time since 12:19 in the third period of Game 2, the Tigers were given a power play opportunity and they did not waste it. Jonas Woo one-timed home a smooth passing play from Liam and Markus Ruck to extend the Tigers lead to two.   In addition to dominating the second period on the scoresheet, the Tigers were dominating in the hits department as well with the likes of Davidson and Shaeffer Gordon-Carroll making their presence known to keep Calgary at bay.   With their season on the line the Hitmen pushed hard and tallied an early goal from Ethan Moore at 5:04 to bring themselves within one.   The Tigers pushed right back and Kade Stengrim's fifth of the playoffs at 10:43 put the Tigers up by two once again. A quick draw win from Gordon-Carroll fed Stengrim in the slot for a rocket of a wrist shot.   Ethan Neutens' empty netter at 18:19 depleted any hope Calgary had of coming back, and the Tigers completed a 4-0 series sweep to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals for the second straight year.

Ethan Moore scored his eighth goal of the playoffs to put the Hitmen up 1-0 at 1:04.   There was little time for the Hitmen to get comfortable with the lead as Liam Ruck evened the score with his third of the playoffs just 0:15 later. Andrew Basha banked a rebound off Eric Tu’s left pad that bounced to Ruck in the slot who buried a one-timer to tie the game 1-1.   Calgary jumped back in front with Wyatt Pisarczyk’s first of the post-season at 7:34 after a deflection out front.   The Tigers would remain down by one until the second period where Liam Ruck scored his second of the night at 4:49 to tie the game. Liam fired a rocket of a wrist shot from the left circle on a short handed opportunity, scoring his second tying goal of the night.   The CHL’s leading scorers continued to work their magic as Markus Ruck followed up his brother’s tying goal with a tally of his own to give the Tigers their first lead of the night. Andrew Basha sent a cross-ice feed to Liam Ruck who fed his brother Markus out front for a quick deflection to make it 3-2 Tigers at 11:51.   While Calgary outshot Medicine Hat 11-7 in the second period, they couldn’t get past the iron as they rang a couple high-danger opportunities off of the post and the Tigers came out of the middle frame ahead by one.   The Hitmen made a massive push to tie the game in the third period but the Tigers' defensive play and the goaltending showcase put on by Carter Casey kept them at bay.   Even though Calgary had a 5-on-3 power play in the third period, they were no match for the stellar Tigers PK unit and Casey's leather.   Empty net goals from Liam Ruck and Ethan Neutens completed Liam's hat trick and sealed the 5-2 win for the Tigers.   Special Teams:

*If necessary]]> Tigers Comeback To Beat Hitmen 4-3, Lead 2-0 In The Series https://chl.ca/whl-tigers/article/tigers-comeback-to-beat-hitmen-4-3-lead-2-0-in-the-series Sun, 12 Apr 2026 03:54:26 +0000 chlwebproduct https://chl.ca/whl-tigers/article/tigers-comeback-to-beat-hitmen-4-3-lead-2-0-in-the-series Medicine Hat, AB – The Tigers took on the Hitmen on Saturday, April 11th in Co-op Place as they looked to take a 2-0 series lead after a win in game 1 of round 2 just one night prior.   The Tigers faced some adversity from the Hitmen early in the game as Calgary put up 13 shots in the first period.   Calgary opened the game with back-to-back goals, their first from Caine Wilke at 4:45 and their second from Keaton Jundt at 9:47.   Kadon McCann responded with a rocket of a wrist shot after Bryce Pickford shut down a Calgary breakout attempt and set up McCann at 10:32.   The Hitmen scored one more goal before the end of the first period to regain their two-goal lead. Their third goal of the game came from Ethan Moore on the power play at 12:53.   The next 20 minutes of hockey went well for the orange and black as the Tigers outscored the Hitmen 2-0 in the middle frame and outshot them 10-9.   One of the hottest Tigers as of late, Kade Stengrim, sent a wrist shot with authority after a cross-ice pass from Veeti Väisänen at 4:28.   Jonas Woo tied the game 3-3 with a maximum effort goal at 7:50. Woo muscled his way to the front of the net on a 1-on-1 with the Hitmen defender and put home a backhand shot past Eric Tu for his fourth of the playoffs.   The Hitmen’s best chance of the period came right at the buzzer with a 2-on-1 opportunity that was shut down by two huge saves from Jordan Switzer. The teams remained tied 3-3 after two periods.   Both teams made a big push in the third period and had some high-danger opportunities. Calgary narrowly edged out Medicine Hat in the shots department for the final frame of the game 8-7.   Switzer continued to keep the Hitmen at bay and fended off some dangerous plays to prevent them from taking the lead. Thanks to the support from Switzer, the lone goal scored in the third period from Josh Van Mulligen was enough for the Tigers to complete the comeback and secure the win. After a cross-ice backhand pass from Shaeffer Gordon-Carroll, Van Mulligen fired a perfectly placed wrist shot from the top of the left circle for his first goal of the playoffs at 4:30.   A late push from the Hitmen that had the Tigers on their heels was not enough to beat Switzer or the Tabbies strong defence that kept them to the outside. The Hitmen couldn't net the equalizer and the Tigers secured a 4-3 win to go up 2-0 in the series.   Special Teams:

Medicine Hat had a 7-1-0-0 record against Calgary in the regular season.   Both teams were left off the scoresheet through the first 20 minutes of play as they spent the first period feeling each other out.   Calgary outshot Medicine Hat 6-5 and while the goalies weren’t busy in the first frame they came up big when it counted.   The first period set a physical tone that gave fans an idea of what to expect from the rest of the game.   Fans were on the edge of their seats during the second period as the action picked up as both teams tried get on the board.   The Tigers thought they were the first on the board after Kade Stengrim jammed home a rebound kicked out by Eric Tu, but after further review the goal was called off due to a hand pass from Shaeffer Gordon-Carroll. The game stayed stagnant at 0-0.   Medicine Hat wanted that goal back and continued their offensive pressure on the Hitmen, outshooting them 14-9 in the middle frame.   Yaroslav Bryzgalov had a high-danger chance in the slot and sent a rocket of a wrist shot towards the Calgary net, but the puck rang off of the crossbar.   The relentless offensive pressure from the Tabbies paid off as Stengrim redeemed his called off goal earlier with a late tally at 18:53. Jonas Woo followed up a rebound the net and chopped it out front to Stengrim who buried the puck and secure a good hockey goal to make it 1-0 Tigers.   Just 0:46 later the Hitmen tied the game back at 1-1 with a goal from Kale Dach just before the period ended.   The Hitmen wasted no time taking away the Tigers lead, and Bryce Pickford wasted no time getting it back at the start of the third period. Pickford walked through Calgary's defenders from the left wall and fired a wrist shot from the high slot to restore the Tigers lead at 1:41 on the power play.   While the Tigers offensive pressure had the Hitmen on their heels, Calgary turned the tables on Medicine Hat late in the third. The Hitmen forced overtime with an Ethan Moore goal at 11:39 in the third period.   The Tigers posted a staggering 15 shots on goal in the overtime period to the Hitmen's six and had plenty of high danger chances.   With exactly 1:00 remaining in the first overtime period, Pickford one-timed a centering pass from Bryzgalov after they were both digging at a loose puck in the crease. Co-op Place erupted at the long awaited game winner and the Tigers took a 1-0 series lead.   Special Teams:
