TIGERS TAKE CARE OF OIL KINGS 5-2 AT HOME

The first period saw the Tigers beat their best effort for goals in a first period notching four in the opening 20 minutes. Brenden Lee (Seattle, WA) would get his 26th of the year on an excellent display of patience from Tyler MacKenzie (Red Deer, AB) to make it 1-0 at at 9:40. The Tigers would answer again on the first shorthanded goal of the year from MacKenzie with his 17th from Dru Krebs (Okotoks, AB) makes it 2-0 at 13:04. Over five minutes later, Tomas Mrsic (Surry, B.C.) would hit his 8th of the season from Hunter St. Martin (Edmonton, AB) on an Edmonton turnover at 18:16. The Tigers would take their foot off the gas in the first as Brenden Lee would blast home his second of the night at 27th of the season with 52 seconds left thanks to the third point of the period from MacKenzie and Shane Smith (Cessford, AB).
Heading to the second, the Tigers would outshoot the Oil Kings 18-10. Things would cool off offensively and the Tigers would get into penalty trouble but would run a clean sheet of 3/3 in the period and would be rewarded thanks to Cayden Lindstrom (Chetwynd, B.C.) and his 17th of the year and putting him fourth in WHL Rookie goal scoring in the process. Smith would get his second point on the night.
Into the third period the Oil Kings would break Beckett Langkow’s shut-out bid at 6:02 as Rhys Pedersen would score his 1st Western Hockey League goal from Jacob Hoffrogge & Loick Daigle to make it 5-1 and an unfortunate clear helped Mason Finley get his 10th of the campaign for Edmonton at 17:23, but the Tigers would give no quarter with a 5-2 win, vaulting their record to 26-24-8-1 and alone in 7th place in the Eastern Conference Playoff Race.
Beckett Langkow (Vegreville, AB) would make 25 saves in the win for his 22nd on the season. The Tigers special teams were blanked on the power play going 0/1, but the penalty kill put up a clean sheet going 5/5.
