TIGERS DROP 3-1 DECISION TO BRONCOS
Medicine Hat, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers dropped a tight 3-1 affair with Central Division rivals the Swift Current Broncos 3-1 Friday night at Co-op Place.
In the first period, the Tigers were busy firing 11 shots towards Broncos goaltender Matthew Kieper but despite a power play chance, they could not find the back of the Swift Current net. The Broncos would open the scoring at 6:08 as Caleb Wyrostok would notch his 7th of the season beating Ethan McCallum (Brandon, MB) to give the Broncos the 1-0 lead going to the middle frame.
Swift Current would get up by two early in the second as Wyrostok would bury his second of the night just 45 seconds into the period to make it 2-0 Broncos. Kieper and McCallum would be busy in their respective nets making 10 saves a piece. A scrap between Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) & Swift Current captain Owen Pickering would get the crowd going at Co-op Place but the Broncos would take a 2-0 lead, heading to the third.
The third period would see the Tigers would get on the board 2:25 as Hunter St.Martin (Edmonton, AB) would mark his ninth of the season from Oasiz Wiesblatt & Bogdans Hodass (Jelgava, LAT) to get within a single shot.
Despite having the extra attacker, the Tigers couldn’t find one past the Broncos and their fate would be sealed with Wyrostok’s hat-trick goal with just a second left in the game. Giving the Broncos the 3-1 win over the Tigers.
The Tigers drop their record to 22-10-2 heading into the final game of 2023 as they’ll take on the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
