MacKenzie Named 40th Team Captain in Franchise History
Medicine Hat, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers are proud name Tyler MacKenzie (Red Deer, AB) our 40th Team Captain in franchise history.
MacKenzie, 19, is entering his third full season with the Tigers playing in 129 career WHL games scoring 23 goals & 45 assists.
Last year the former alternate captain played in 58 games registering 18 goals and 22 assists for 40 points, along with a plus/minus rating of +12.
Tigers Head Coach & General Manager Willie Desjardins says MacKenzie will be a strong leader and lead by example.
“We’re really excited to name Tyler our captain with all the leadership qualities he brings to the dressing room and on the ice,” he says.” “When we signed Tyler after the draft, he was down in the dressing room with his father and I said to them both that today is a great day and I hope I’m never in a spot to lose Tyler and his father went up to me “well if that happens then it’s on Tyler”. So with qualities like that we know as a coaching staff and organization what we’re getting this season.”
Rounding out our captaincy positions are veteran defencemen Dru Krebs, (Okotoks, AB) & Rhett Parsons (Cremona, AB) who will will an alternate captaincy for the second straight season.
The Tigers will name an additional alternate captain later in the season.
