KENT, Wash. \u2013 The Seattle Thunderbirds made two selections in the 2026 CHL Import Draft Tuesday, adding size on the backend and offensive punch up front. Both T-Birds selections came in the second round of the three round draft.<\/p>\n

With their first pick, 94th<\/sup> overall, Seattle selected 2007 born Finnish defenseman Reko Alanko. Listed at 6\u20196\u201d Alanko is spending this week at development camp with the NHL\u2019s Utah Mammoth. Utah selected him in the sixth round of the 2025 NHL Enty Draft. The Helsinki native played primarily with FinU20 Jokerit during the 2025-26 campaign but also spent time with Jokerit\u2019s Liiga team. Liiga is the top tier professional league in Finland.<\/p>\n

The T-Birds used the 112th<\/sup> pick on Dominik Ripa, a 2008 born center from Olomouc, Czechia. Ripa spent last season playing for HC Ocelari Trinec U20. In 50 games he tallied 31 points on 17 goals and 14 assists.<\/p>\n

Both Seattle picks have international experience as well. Alanko played in seven games split between Finland\u2019s U19 and U20 teams. Ripa won a bronze medal with Team Czechia at the U18 World Junior Championships this past spring where he was a teammate of current T-Birds goalie Marek Sklenicka. Ripa finished the tournament with eight points in seven games including a game winning overtime goal.<\/p>\n

Defenseman Jonas Kemps is at camp with the Florida Panthers. The Panthers selected Kemps in the fourth round of the draft on Saturday. Goaltender Marek Sklenicka, a fourth round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers this past weekend, will be joined in Flyers camp by T-Birds center Matthew Gard. This will be Gard\u2019s second time participating in Flyers development camp after being chosen by Philadelphia in the second round of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.<\/p>\n

Forward Noah Kosick is down in Southern California at camp with the Anaheim Ducks who drafted him in the sixth round on Saturday. Meanwhile, Ashton Cumby, who finished up his T-Birds career this past spring, is attending his second camp with the Chicago Blackhawks. Chicago drafted the big defenseman in round six of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.<\/p>\n

Defenseman Radim Mrtka is at his second development camp with Buffalo after the Sabres made him the ninth overall pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.<\/p>\n

Two former T-Birds, forwards Jordan Gustafson and Nathan Pilling, will participate at development camp with the Vegas Golden Knights. Gustafson, a member of the T-Birds 2023 WHL championship team, was a third round draft pick by the Knights in 2022. KENT, Wash. \u2013 Three Seattle Thunderbirds were selected on the second day of the 2026 NHL Entry Draft Saturday at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York. It is the second straight year Seattle has had three players drafted.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

First to hear his name called was newly signed T-Birds defenseman Jonas Kemps. The 6\u20196\u201d, 195 lb. left shot defenseman out of Sebastopol, California was chosen early in the fourth round, going 98<\/span>th<\/span> overall to the Florida Panthers. He is the first T-Bird drafted by the Panthers since they chose Gracyn Sawchyn in the second round of the 2023 draft.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Kemps selection was followed twenty-two picks later when goalie Marek Sklenicka was also drafted in the fourth round, 120<\/span>th<\/span> overall, by the Philadelphia Flyers. The Litinov, Czechia native is the third Thunderbirds goalie to be drafted recently, following in the footsteps of Scott Ratzlaff and Thomas Milic who were both chosen back in 2023.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With the last pick of round six, the Anaheim Ducks picked T-Birds center Noah Kosick. Kosick, from Victoria, B.C., led the T-Birds in playoff scoring this past spring with five points in five postseason games. The last time the Ducks used a draft choice on a T-Bird was 2023 when they picked Nico Myatovic at the top of round two.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Seattle is sending three draft picks to Kelowna to acquire 2009 born defenseman Owen Hayden. Two draft picks are coming back to Seattle in the deal as well.<\/p>\n

To obtain Hayden the Thunderbirds will send Kelowna their first pick in next week\u2019s CHL Import Draft. In addition, a first round selection in the 2028 WHL Prospects draft that Seattle acquired this past winter from the Prince Albert Raiders, along with a 2027 third round pick, also acquired from the Raiders, are headed to the Rockets in the transaction.<\/p>\n

Hayden was Kelowna\u2019s first round pick in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft, taken ninth overall. The 6\u20197\u201d, 195 lb. left shot defenseman from Calgary just finished his rookie season with the Rockets.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are really excited to add Owen to our team,\u201d said T-Birds General Manager Bil LaForge. \u201cHe is a player we have always liked going back to his draft year. KENT, June 22, 2026 \u2014<\/strong> The Seattle Thunderbirds will play six preseason games prior to the 2026-27 regular season.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Home Opener for the 2026-27 season was announced this past week.\u00a0 The T-Birds will play the Prince George Cougars on Saturday, September 26<\/span> at 6:05 pm at accesso ShoWare Center.<\/span><\/p>\n

The T-Birds start the preseason in Everett on Sunday, August 3<\/span>0 at <\/span>1:00pm. The Silvertips Classic Tournament play will begin as the T-Birds face the Vancouver Giants on Friday, September 4. They finish the tournament with back to back games against the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday, September 5 and the Everett Silvertips on Sunday, September 6.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Preseason play continues for the T-Birds at the Toyota Center in Kennewick. The T-Birds will begin the tournament on Thursday, September 11, against the Wenatchee Wild. The T-Birds will then play on Saturday, September 12 against the Portland Winterhawks, wrapping up the preseason.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

T-Birds single game tickets for the 2026-27 regular season will go on sale September 2 with Home Opener going on sale August 26. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]KENT, Wash. \u2013 The Seattle Thunderbirds have signed Jett Evans to a WHL Scholarship and Development agreement. Evans was drafted by the T-Birds in the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft held in early May.<\/p>\n

Evans was Seattle\u2019s third of nine selections in the draft, taken in the second round, 34th overall. He\u2019s a center out of Strathmore, Alberta. Evans put up 48 points in 29 games last season playing for NAX U15 Prep then tallied nine points in four playoff games.<\/p>\n

T-Birds assistant general manager Craig Goebel calls Evans a versatile player who can play all three forward positions. \u201cHis skating and hockey IQ are his greatest strengths. He is able to contribute offensively and works tirelessly to support in the defensive zone as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

A defenseman from Saskatoon, Bubnick was chosen eleventh overall. He was the second of the Thunderbirds two first round selections. T-Birds assistant general manager Craig Goebel describes him as a big, solid defender who can play a shutdown role with his size, great stick and skating ability.<\/p>\n

Goebel added, \u201cWhen needed he can rush or pass the puck with accuracy out of his own zone. He just has a great presence out there.\u201d Bubnick spent last season with the SKU15 Saskatoon Generals, finishing with 43 points in 26 games.<\/p>\n

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]KENT, Wash. \u2013 The Seattle Thunderbirds have inked Wyatt Jolleys to a\u00a0WHL Scholarship and Development agreement.\u00a0Jolleys was the T-Birds first pick, seventh overall, in the WHL Prospects Draft\u00a0held\u00a0earlier this month.\u00a0 Seattle acquired the pick in a draft day trade with the Victoria Royals that sent Cameron Schmidt to the Royals.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

T-Birds Assistant General Manager Craig Goebel described Jolleys as a solid two way center who competes hard at both ends of the ice. \u201cThe offensive skills Wyatt possesses, however, is what drew us to him,\u201d\u00a0said\u00a0Goebel of their top choice. \u201cHe has excellent vision and passing skills, sees the ice so well and makes all the other players out there with him better.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The 2011 born forward out of Calgary played last season with the Calgary Bison U15 AAA team. He recorded 86 points in 33 games, scoring 28 goals and adding 58 assists.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
