Sawchyn was drafted first overall by the Red Deer Rebels in the 2020 WHL draft. In 2021 Sawchyns rights were traded to the Seattle Thunderbirds in exchange for a 2022 conditional second round pick. On July 6th the forward to a WHL Standard Player Agreement. As a rookie Sawchyn instantly made a splash, scoring a goal and an assist in his debut, leading the Thunderbrids to a 4-3 Shootout win over the Vancouver Giants. Sawchyn finished the 2022-23 season being a point per game player for the T-Birds. His Impressive rookie year lead him to get drafted in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, being selected by the Florida Panthers in the second round 63rd overall.
