T-Birds Have Seventh Overall Pick in 2020 Bantam Draft

KENT, April 20, 2020 — The Seattle Thunderbirds will pick seventh overall in the 2020 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft on Wednesday, April 22.
The Bantam Draft starts at 9 am on April 22. Fans can follow the T-Birds selections and the Bantam Draft on the WHL website. The T-Birds will also post their selections on their Twitter and include comments from the hockey operations staff on each player selected.
The T-Birds have 11 selections through 10 rounds of the Draft. All T-Birds draft picks through the 10th round of the draft are listed below:
- 1st round (7th overall)
- 2nd round (29th overall)
- 3rd round (63rd overall) – from Kamloops
- 4th round (69th overall) – from Tri City
- 5th round (95th overall)
- 5th round (99th overall) – from Saskatoon via Kelowna
- 6th round (117th overall)
- 7th round (139th overall)
- 8th round (161st overall)
- 9th round (183rd overall)
- 10th round (205th overall)
The Bantam Draft will be conducted by all teams remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Former T-Birds selected in the Bantam Draft that played at least one game in the NHL during the 2019-20 season include: Patrick Marleau, Mathew Barzal, Ethan Bear, Keegan Kolesar, Shea Theodore, and Calvin Pickard.

The WHL drafts bantam players from Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba and the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
Players from non-North American countries are allowed to be added to rosters via the CHL Import Draft, which is normally held in June.
Any player that signs a WHL Standard Player Agreement is guaranteed a WHL Scholarship for every year he plays in the WHL. A player is able to attend any career enhancing institution of his choice, including universities, colleges, technical institutes, trade schools, or any other institution which will help the player achieve his academic and career goals. For each season played in the WHL, a player receives a one year post-secondary scholarship, which includes: Tuition, Compulsory Fees and Required Textbooks.
