Q&A with Turner Ottenbreit
Turner Ottenbreit played his second season with the T-Birds in 2015-16. Turner appeared in all 69 games recording 5 goals and 11 assists for a total of 16 points. In the 2016 playoffs, Turner played in all 18 games and registered one goal and two assists with 36 penalty minutes. After returning from the New York Rangers Development Camp Turner took some time to chat with us.
Seattle Thunderbirds: Thanks for joining us, Turner. First off, how’s your summer been so far?
Turner Ottenbreit: Summer has been really good so far.
ST: How was the New York Rangers Development Camp?
TO: Rangers camp was a great experience, looking forward to going back in September.
ST: What were some of the on-ice drills you guys did, and what types of off-ice training was done?
TO: The drills at camp were very competitve but I had a good time while I was there.
ST: What was the difference in the Rangers Development camp this year compared to when you went to the Washington Capitals Development camp last year?
TO: Having been to Capitals camp last year, this year going to Rangers I knew more of what to expect.
ST: Ryan Gropp also attended the Rangers Development camp, how was it having one of your teammates there with you? Did you guys get to do any activities outside of camp together?
TO: Great to have a teammate that you know. We went downtown and toured the city. Got to see Madison Square Garden.
ST: You recorded your best season stat wise last year, what do you think you did differently compared to other seasons?
TO: Being a year older I had more experience and got put into bigger roles.
ST: Being in a playoff atmosphere must be very nerve wrecking, what were you most nervous/excited for during the playoff run?
TO: Winning the Western Conference was a great experience! We couldn’t have done it without our fans. The finals was exciting but would have liked a better outcome.
ST: What is your number one goal for this upcoming season and what steps will you take to achieve this goal?
TO: Our number one goal is to win the Memorial Cup. But along the way there is a lot of steps that we will take as a team.
ST: What has been your favorite part about this offseason?
TO: My favorite part is spending time at our summer cabin with family and friends.
ST: What have you been doing training wise to prepare for this upcoming season?
TO: I have been in the gym and skating.
ST: You went to see Justin Bieber in concert in Saskatoon with some of your teammates. How was the concert?
TO: Ha, Ha, ha. We had a pretty good time.
ST: Your dad played professional hockey. What kind of influence has he had on your hockey development?
TO: He’s had a huge influence on my career. As well as coaching me growing up.
ST: Did you play any other sports while growing up?
TO: Baseball, basketball and golf are three sports I really enjoy outside of hockey.
ST: What do you like best about living around the Kent area?
TO: Kent is full of great friendly people and there’s a Chipotle across the street.
ST: Who is your favorite movie star and why?
TO: Jason Sudeikis because he’s funny.
ST: What made you start playing hockey as a young kid?
TO: My Dad bought me my first pair of skates when I was three and ever since then I enjoyed the game.
