T-Birds Fall To Winterhawks
Jeri-Leon scores in 3-1 loss to Winterhawks
PORTLAND, April 17, 2021 — The Portland Winterhawks defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-1 Saturday night at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The T-Birds game scheduled for Wednesday, April 21 against the Tri-City Americans at accesso ShoWare Center at 6:05pm has been postponed. The WHL announced Saturday afternoon a member of the Americans team cohort has tested positive for COVID-19 and all team activities have been suspended.
The T-Birds will return to Portland for back-to-back games on Saturday, April 24, and Sunday, April 25. Both games start at 5pm and will be broadcast on JOEtv Cable 22/Channel 110.
Keltie Jeri-Leon’s tenth goal of the season at 13:23 of the second period opened the scoring. Henrik Rybinski won a faceoff in the left circle that Sam Oremba got a stick on. Jeri-Leon skated into the circle and near the outside hash marks snapped a shot on goal. Jeri-Leon’s shot beat Portland goalie Dante Giannuzzi over the left shoulder.

Portland tied the game 1-1 at 15:41 of the second on a power-play goal from Reece Newkirk.
The Winterhawks got goals from Nick Cicek 12 seconds into the third period and Brody Tallman at 5:59 to take a 3-1 lead.
Seattle pulled goalie Jackson Berry with 3:35 left in the third period for an extra attacker. They had several good chances but were not able to get a goal.
