Noah Philp Named WHL On The Run Player of the Week
Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today that Seattle Thunderbirds forward Noah Philp has been named the WHL On the Run Player of the Week for the week ending January 6, 2019.
Philp recorded eight points (4G-4A) and a plus-two rating as the Thunderbirds closed out 2018 and began a road trip through the East Division.
On New Year’s Eve, Philp picked up a single assist as the Thunderbirds took a 6-3 loss at the hands of the Portland Winterhawks. The primary assist came on Seattle second goal of the contest.
Beginning their road trip with a 7-3 loss to the Brandon Wheat Kings, Philp had a pair of goals and an assist Friday, earning third star honors for the game. Philp scored the first and third goals of the game for Seattle while also picking up a primary assist on their second goal.
Sunday, the Thunderbirds scored a 6-3 win over the Regina Pats in rematch of the 2017 WHL Championship Series with Philp contributing a four-point performance. With the teams tied 2-2 entering the third period, Philp had a 20 minutes to remember, scoring the third and sixth goals of the game for Seattle while picking up an assist on their fourth and fifth goals en route to victory. Philp was named the third star of the game for his efforts as well as the WHL’s second star of the night.
Overall, Philp recorded five points (3G-2A) at even strength this week as well as picking up three primary assists. This year, the 20-year-old forward from Canmore, Alberta, has 34 points (15G-19A) in 25 games, including seven power-play goals. Those figures have him leading the team in goals while sitting third in assists and second overall in scoring.
Philp began his WHL career with the Kootenay ICE in the 2015-16 WHL Regular Season and scored the first goal of his WHL career on December 8, 2015. Overall, the 6-foot-3, 198-pound forward has appeared in 228 WHL regular season games, posting 125 points (43G-82A), including 12 power-play goals and one game-winning goal. He’s also appeared in five WHL playoff games.
The Thunderbirds return to action Tuesday, January 8, at 5pm at the Saskatoon Blades.
