Korchinski Registers First WHL Point As T-Birds Fall To Winterhawks
T-Birds next game will be broadcast on JOEtv
KENT, March 20, 2021 — The Portland Winterhawks defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-1 Saturday night accesso ShoWare Center in a game that was broadcast on JOEtv.
The T-Birds next game is Friday, March 26, at 5:10pm in a game that will be broadcast on JOEtv. The T-Birds are back home on Saturday, March 27 and Sunday, March 28 to face the Winterhawks. Both of these games will be broadcast on JOEtv as well. Veteran WHL play-by-play voice Ian Furness will have the call for the broadcasts.
Seattle goalie Thomas Milic made a big save on Reece Newkirk on a breakaway under a minute into the game with a left pad save.
After the Milic save on Newkirk the T-Birds pushed the play in the first period with pace and outshot the Winterhawks 16-4.
Portland went in front 1-0 at 3:50 of the second period on goal from Kade Nolan, who’s point shot deflected past Milic.
Newkirk scored a power-play goal at 8:53 and then Aidan Litke scored at 9:24 to give Portland a 3-0 shot. Litke’s shot deflected off a T-Bird.
Seattle got on the board 49 seconds into the third period on a power-play goal by Matthew Rempe. Kevin Korchinski passed the puck to Jordan Gustafson at the right point. Gustafson took a slap shot that Rempe tipped past Portland goalie Dante Giannuzzi for his first goal of the season.
The assist by Korchinski was his first point in the WHL.
Mason Mannek scored an empty-net goal for Portland’s final goal.
