T-Birds Sign Tyler Carpendale
Center selected in 6th round of 2015 Bantam Draft
KENT, March 11, 2017 — Seattle Thunderbirds general manager Russ Farwell today announced center Tyler Carpendale has signed a WHL Standard Player Agreement with the team.
Carpendale, from Powell River, British Columbia, played this season with the Westshore Wolves in the VIJHL. Carpendale had eight goals and eight assists for 16 points with ten penalty minutes in 34 games. Carpendale is 6’3 and 202 pounds and is a 2000 birth year.
The T-Birds play the Portland Winterhawks tonight at 6pm at Veterans Memorial Arena in a game that is being broadcast on This TV. This TV can be seen locally on Comcast Cable channel 357 and over the air on channel 13.2.
Carpendale will wear jersey number 14 and is eligible to play against the Winterhawks tonight.
The T-Birds selected Carpendale in the sixth round, 125th overall, in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft. He played the 2015-16 season with Shawnigan Lake Prep in the CSSHL and had eight goals and four assists for 12 points in 36 games.
By signing a WHL Standard Player Agreement Carpendale is guaranteed a WHL Scholarship for every year he plays in the WHL. A player is able to attend any career enhancing institution of his choice, including universities, colleges, technical institutes, trade schools, or any other institution which will help the player achieve his academic and career goals.
For each season played in the WHL, a player receives a one year post-secondary scholarship, which includes: Tuition, Compulsory Fees and Required Textbooks.
The WHL provides the top young hockey talent in western Canada and the United States with the opportunity to develop their skills on the ice at the highest possible level, without compromising their academic goals. The WHL is committed to recognizing academic excellence.
The T-Birds are currently in first place in the U.S. Division and Western Conference Standings with a 43-19-4-2 record with four games remaining in the regular season. They are one point ahead of the Everett Silvertips (40-15-8-3) who have two games in hand on the T-Birds. The Prince George Cougars lead the B.C Division with a 43-21-3-2 record and are one point behind the T-Birds for the top spot in the Western Conference. The T-Birds have one game in hand on the Cougars.
The T-Birds clinched home-ice advantage in the first round of the 2017 Playoffs with a 3-2 win over the Silvertips Friday at ShoWare Center.
Games 1 and 2 of the first round of the playoffs will be at ShoWare Center against a to be determined opponent on Friday, March 24, at 7:35pm and Saturday, March 25, at 7:05pm.
Single game playoff tickets will go on sale Wednesday, March 15, at 10am at the ShoWare Center box office and online on the T-Birds website.
The T-Birds have a Group Ticket Special for fans that want to purchase tickets to Game 1 and Game 2, or both, before they go on sale to the general public. Fans that purchase 10 tickets to either Game 1 or Game 2 for $220 will also receive 2 additional FREE tickets to the playoff game they choose. T-Birds have two regular season home games remaining. They play the Winterhawks on Saturday, March 18, at 7:05pm and the Vancouver Giants on Sunday, March 19 at, 5:05pm. Fans can purchase single game tickets to these two games online or at the ShoWare Center box office.
