It was also a breakout game for the second star Wyatte Wylie. The Tips D-man scored two goals, including the game-tying goal on the powerplay in the second period. It’s the second time Wylie’s scored two goals in a game and first since September 21 against the Victoria Royals. Wylie’s 23 points this year are fourth among all WHL defenseman and is four goals away from setting a new career high.
Edge Lambert’s deflection at the net put Tri-City up 1-0 at 2:16 of the first period for a power play goal and 1-0 lead, but Kindopp answered for the Silvertips on a steal and snap shot past Talyn Boyko at 6:25 for a 1-1 tie.
Tri-City claimed the lead by the end of the first on Samuel Huo’s deflection with 1:10 to play, but the Tips wasted little time responding for a 2-2 tie just 47 seconds into the second period. A point shot that caught traffic was deposited by Wyatte Wylie for his sixth of the year, and Wylie gave the Tips the lead at 6:31 on a power play when he drove a point shot through traffic.
Krystof Hrabik tied the game with 2:17 left in the second period and the Tips nearly put the game away in the third, but Boyko got in the way of all 19 Tips shots.
Kindopp ended matters at 2:52 of overtime when he cruised into the Tri-City zone, outwaited the defense and uncorked a snap shot past Boyko from the right wing.
Keegan Karki was between the pipes tonight as Dustin Wolf got a night off. In place of Wolf, Karki stopped 19 of 22 shots in almost 63 minutes of play. Karki is now 4-0-1-0 on the season with a 2.89 GAA and a 0.902 save percentage. In seven appearance this season, the Silvertips are 4-2-1-0 when Karki plays.
On the otherside, Talyn Boyko stopped 48 saves in the overtime loss. It was Boyko’s first loss this season but he did receive third-star honours for his sensational performance.
THREE STARS:
- Bryce Kindopp (EVT)
- Wyatte Wylie (EVT)
- Talyn Boyko (TC)
NOTES: Scratched from the lineup were Braden Holt (healthy), Aiden Sutter (healthy), Tyson Phare (injury), and Jacob Wright (healthy) … Cole Fonstad has earned a point in all ten games with the Tips and logged an assist … the Tips improved to 4-1 in overtime.
