GAME RECAP: Smith nets two, Chadwick stops 41 in 6-2 win in Spokane
SPOKANE, Wash. — The Everett Silvertips opened their road trip with a bang Saturday night, topping the Spokane Chiefs 6-2 at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.
Chase Harrington opened the scoring for the Chiefs with his first career WHL goal, beating Ethan Chadwick off a two-on-one rush just 1:09 into play. Everett answered at 5:32, as a heavy Hayden Smith hit in the offensive zone forced a turnover leading to a Beau Courtney rebound goal. Everett grabbed the lead at 10:10 thanks to an Eric Jamieson shot from the hashmarks for his second goal of the season.
Hayden Paupanekis brought the Chiefs back even with a powerplay redirection at 18:37 in the first. The Silvertips outshot the Chiefs 20-15 in the opening frame.
Niko Tsakumis netted his first goal of the season with an odd-man-rush goal at 6:48 to restore Everett’s lead. Ben Hemmerling snuck a powerplay goal home from the blueline at 10:27 for his second of the weekend and fifth of the season. Tarin Smith dangled out netminder Dawson Cowan at 4-on-4 for a 5-2 Everett lead heading into the second intermission.
Smith added another tally in the third period to finalize a 6-2 win. Ethan Chadwick stopped a season-high 41 of 43 in the win.
