GAME RECAP: Silvertips snag point in OT loss to Portland
PORTLAND, Oreg. — The Portland Winterhawks completed a dramatic third period comeback against the Everett Silvertips Tuesday night, battling back from down 3-1 late in regulation to take a 4-3 win in overtime.
Gabe Klassen opened the scoring for the Winterhawks in the second period, banging home a loose puck in front of the Everett net on the powerplay. Niko Huuhtanen would get the Silvertips on the board at 13:36 in the second, wiring a wrist shot past Portland netminder Dante Giannuzzi for his 11th goal of the season and his 10th in his last 11 games.

Michal Gut would give the Tips the lead just 1:07 later, cutting across the width of the offensive zone and dragging the puck to his backhand in a marvelous display of stickhandling for his seventh goal of the year. Less than two minutes after, Jackson Berezowski would tally his 20th goal of the campaign on the man advantage, lofting a rebound shot over a prone Giannuzzi to give the Tips a 3-1 lead.
Berezowski now has 10 goals and six assists through eight December games. He currently rides a four-game goal-scoring streak.
James Stefan would cut the lead to one for Portland at 13:19 in the third, tapping in a backdoor feed from Jaydon Dureau. Dureau would then knot the score at 15:26, rifling a wrister past Braden Holt, who was heavily screened on the play.
Though the Silvertips would send three shots on goal in overtime, Klassen would cap off the comeback for Portland in extra time, potting his 12th of the year for the game-winner.
Braden Holt stopped 35 of 39 in the overtime loss.
The Silvertips are now 19-5-4 on the season, holding a four-point advantage over the Seattle Thunderbirds for first place in both the U.S. Division and the Western Conference. They remain one of three teams to cross the 40-point threshold at this point in the Western Hockey League, as Edmonton also has 41 points and Winnipeg has 47.
