GAME RECAP: Roest nets hat trick as Tips power past Americans 6-2
EVERETT, Wash. — Austin Roest netted his second career hat trick as the Everett Silvertips exacted revenge on their division rivals in a 6-2 win over the Tri-City Americans Wednesday ngiht.
Jake Sloan opened the scoring for Tri-City 4:05 into the first period, but was answered in short order by a Roest one-timer fed by Jesse Heslop at 5:59.
Roest netted his second of the night 7:49 into the second period, tipping a Ty Gibson shot from the blueline to give the Silvertips a 2-1 lead. Dominik Rymon sniped his eighth goal in 11 games less than a minute later to extend Everett’s lead. Roest completed his hat trick with a wrist shot from between the hashmarks at 10:58 in the second period.
The Tips tacked on their fourth goal of the period and fifth of the game at 12:43 in the frame, as Julius Miettinen rifled his third goal of the season.
Jesse Heslop tacked on a powerplay goal at 12:39 in the third period, his third of the season and second on the powerplay. Brandon Whynott added one more for the Americans for a 6-2 final.
Tyler Palmer stopped 25 out of 27 shots giving the Silvertips the win. Palmer reached 3,000 career saves in the contest- his 100th appearance in the Western Hockey League.
“It feels good,” commented Roest after the game. “The better feeling is the two points for the team. The hat trick is just a bonus. It feels good to get the win.”
“Our puck management was the biggest thing” commented assistant coach Mike Field. “Our guys did a much better job of understanding when we had numbers, when we had opportunities to make plays.”
