GAME RECAP: POWER KILL! Tips net 3 shorthanded in 6-2 win over Vancouver
EVERETT, Wash. — The Everett Silvertips’ penalty kill generated three shorthanded goals in a 6-2 victory over the Vancouver Giants Saturday night at Angel of the Winds Arena.
Austin Roest scored the first while a man down at 10:45 in the first, cashing in a rebound after a Beau Courtney zone shot ricocheted off the endboards. Roest grabbed his second shortie of the game 3:02 into the second period, roofing a backhander over Vancouver goaltender Matthew Hutchison. Everett’s third shorthanded goal came off another rebound, this time Dominik Rymon’s shot off Hutchison’s pad was left for Eric Jamieson to bang home for his fourth of the year.
Dominik Rymon grabbed the Tips’ first goal at even strength of the night, deflecting a Cameron Sytsma shot for his 11th of the campaign. Kyan Grouette earned his first of the year by batting in an airborne rebound on his own breakaway at 4:20 in the third period, bringing Everett’s lead to 5-0.
Colton Roberts struck twice in the third period for Vancouver, but a Jesse Heslop backhander at 17:14 sealed the 6-2 final.
Tyler Palmer stopped 20 of 22 for the win, his seventh of the year.
